what's wrong with that? i just thought it would make it easier to find posts of people's suggestions that you didn't quite remember the name of and want to search out, except it's buried in a 100+ page thread

we could just wait until the new year and this could become current favorite albums 20XX-2009

listened to this stuff last:
10-20 - s/t
cluster - qua
mission of burma - the sound the speed the light

Well, if people would find it useful, by all means. It's just that this thread has personal significance for me, and I'd be sad not to be regularly reminded of it.

Anamanaguchi - Dawn Metropolis
Bit Shifter - Information Chase
she - Orion

Currently in the chiptune/electroblip phase of my musical listening cycle. A lot of chiptune stuff is sort of catchy, but falls flat outside of the context of videogames and isn't generally something I could really listen to on the bus to work or anything like that. I'm really digging Dawn Metropolis, maybe because it's laid over real guitars and has a bit more sonic depth in that regard. Bit Shifter seems to put his work together with a bit more of a pop sensibility, so it actually sounds like music (structure-wise) rather than something designed to be looped in a forgettable Mega Man stage.

Yeah, that one's hard to beat. It took me a while to realize that it's easily their best album, and one of the best metal albums I've ever heard.

My current favorite album is Leviathan by Mastodon. Following closely is Crack the Skye.

I'm also enjoying Glorious Burden by Iced Earth.

Absolutely man, it's definitely one of my favourite metal albums.

I really like '...And Then It Passes' too; nowhere near a good as the crushing savagery of NSV, but still a decent album. The vocals take a bit of getting used to after Lord Worm's though.

Thanks for that Jon (and undamned). Good stuff.

Chiptunes for me is all about Nullsleep again right now.

Other than that I still can't get enough of Chicks on Speed's 99 Cents LP...

Thanks for the link! Nice to see an Oregon band in a style that's pretty uncommon outside of large cities, and they sound good too! I just wish bands would take the time to throw together a decent small website than default to MySpace. I understand its appeal--get a few songs or videos up for preview, band info, large userbase etc.--but fuck is it an ugly site even by the default design, and you have to wade through all its crappy boxes just to discover if a band has a real website or is on a label. I've given up on a few bands because I can't get any sense that they exist on the web outside of MySpace.

I'll have to go through his whole back catalog. I've listened to a few of the smaller collections, and they've been a little hit and miss--some great catchy songs, and others that seem again like tracks that didn't quite make it into some third-party NES title.

Currently digging on "Beneath the Waves" by Floodline. Progressive metal that is different than the usual prog-metal fare. No Dream Theater copycats here. These guys describe their sound as "Alice in Chains meets Opeth meets Meshuggah". That's not entirely accurate, but pretty close. Their debut embodied that sound moreso than this album, which is more expansive & much more well-produced. Great songs as well!

Just picked up Six Organs of Admittance's new album and the nice 180g double vinyl reissue of of Montreal's Coquelicot: Asleep Amongst the Poppies. Also box a 17CD box of the complete works of Chopin by some well respected performers. Christmas day is going to be a wonderful day full of Muzurkas and Waltzes.
