I started playing Eggerland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu recently, and this game hands down blows away all of the US released Lolo games. It's longer than Lolo 2 and 3 combined, and has some really tough levels to boot. Kinda hard to figure out how this game came out before the series changed names to Adventures of Lolo yet completely outdoes the later games.

The 3D look is superb and vastly preferable, and the implementation elsewhere proves this, but by shunning it for the Arcade Mode developers Taito simply make themselves look like lazy slackers.

It seems weird that any game in that series would be significantly better than the rest... I only played the US Lolo games, but they pretty much seemed the same to me (except that 1 was easier than 2 and 3).

puzzle games I always fall back on is tetris and solomons key (arcade). Never get tired of those games.

Recently Ive fallen in love with the Mr. Driller games. Have Mr. Driller G for psx. I suck but I cant stop playing it

thought I'd mention a few puzzle games that seem to be exclusive on the Saturn (I'm guessing plenty of shmups posters have a Saturn).

Baku Baku is pretty good - its a pit puzzler in the same vein as Puzzle Fighter or Puyo, but you match animals to food (money to banana etc.). Its very nicely done and quite addictive - available in PAL - and optimised too!

Body Special is an odd one - it features jigsaw puzzle solving but it isn't a static picture. Instead it is a short looping video sequence. Its a bit limited in its broad appeal as the videos are of Japanese models in swimsuits - can't see girl gamers being keen......

It even has a 2 player battle mode with a CPU opponent as an option. Very nicely presented.

Shanghai Triple Threat is a very good tile matching game that has lots of modes and an absolutley brilliant 2 player battle mode where each player has his own pile of tiles in which to find a golden tile. You can pinch tiles from each other's pile except for the golden tile. Excellent stuff. The US version runs on an un-modded PAL or JAP console too.

You'll get all of these pretty cheap.

Other favourites are Puyo Puyo 2, tetris party in WiiWare, Wetrix, Mr Driller, Bust-a-move , Kurushi, Devil Dice and Puzzle Fighter.

Anyways, in case anyone's interested, I launched a new series at my community blog the other day, with a focus on obscure puzzle games - several of the titles I cover there were first recommended on this forum, so I figured you guys would want a look, if only to point out the stuff I get wrong. Here is the first post in the series - I'm hoping to put up another one every Monday for the next several weeks. Also, here is the general intro to the series, just for completion's sake.

Are you going to set aside a page for the Japanese PSX puzzler of Senkyu? I recall playing the Fabtek distributed Battle Balls conversion PCB kit at a local arcade back in 1995-1998. Was hoping to see if it would appear on the PSX console Stateside but it was a no-show. I eventually had to break down & get a Battle Balls SP1 cart along with a Seibu Kaihatsu produced SP1 arcade mobo just to play it properly as it should be...playing Senkyu/Battle Balls on Mame/Mame32 emulation ain't the same compared to playing it on real arcade hardware/software.

Mario vs. Konkey Dong works right? I hate the hell out of those little mini Marios. Why does Mario need to rescue them? Somebody was always just going to buy them and molest them; DK is just doing the world a favor by saving them all. Or at least he was until Mario spooked him. Anyway, aside form wherever I'm at right now (I think the fourth stage of World 3+, the first stage in the second row of the fire stage +) it's been pretty fun recently. The plus stages are much easier than the normal ones - I've got all golds with ease through the Plus stages I've beaten so far, whereas with the normal stages I started missing a bunch after completing DK Jungle (which is World 2, so World 3).
