Leave Home (XBLIG)

Post by Alfred »

Best Shmup on Xbox live indie games. The demo is very short so just buy it. It's 240 MS points and about 5.5MB in size. I am really enjoying it. Fantastic game. I hope you enjoy too. Bye!

Ya know, I wish there were a few more XBLIG with drawn graphics instead of the vector based stuff. I understand that vector graphics are easy for a non-artist to produce, but at the same time these games really end up looking the same and lose appeal.

But hey I guess its nice to have another shmup that I will never play. Someone pm me when sprites are back in style.

Have you seen nathan fouts new game coming out soon, titled, 1up? I don't know if that is sprites, but it looks pretty cool.

I gave the demo a go. It seemed ok. But that is about it.

Yes it does.

Played full version of Leave Home and I think it's good enough for the 240. Barely. Graphics aren't just bland, but distracting.

I did only try the demo. I have a hard time buying games on Indie Services. This is the second best shmup out on the service now next to a game that has been distributed many times over the years by different companies. That game is called Platypus. For Leave Home I believe the graphics may have something to do with it as Rob touched on. They are distracting.

Your right Platypus is the best shmup on Xbox live indie games. I am looking forward to 1up and Duality ZF. I will continue support Indie games by buying them in the hope they will make more and better games. Especially Shmup games. Well done Todayisforgotten on being a highy skilled gamer. I have seen your name at the top of almost every leaderboard around. I respect your opinions. Thank you for posting. Good day Sir.

...and it's a sad day when that is the case.

I ran through the Leave Home demo a few times, but it just didn't appeal to me. It seemed to lack the character needed to pull me in. Oddly enough, I found Border Wars much more interesting. That's a no-go, however, due to the limited lateral movement.

Thanks. haha oh come on platypus isn't all that bad. It's fun. Sorta. (:

Border Wars is the one where you play on a piece of paper? and all you hear is pew pew pew pew pew? ya that one was alright. Reminded me of scramble.

does it play better then it looks in the trailer? i thought it looked pretty boring, ~10 enemy shots in the entire trailer :? will give it a try though.

I bought leave home, didn't really like it at first but after a few goes grew to quite like it. i kept doing rubbish at the start which seemed to make the rest of the game a bit boring, but i guess that's the idea, i need to do better at the start, I liked the "always max rank" mode better. thought it was definitely worth the 240 points anyway :)

lol, that looks so bad. The most mindless whack-a-mole shooter since probably '91. Boo.

haha but dude it was made with modeling clay! I'll admit platypus can be beaten by a 4-year old who has never picked up a controller but it is a fun game for a few goes.

Such cool graphics. Shame they didn't do something more interesting with the game.

Need to try that one out later on. The graphics look like Kenta Cho on acid. Looks like the developers like their shmups with lots of little homages to classics in the trailer.

The Martin Galway music on the title screen is probably the best thing about Platypus.

I've only played the Leave Home demo which is like 30 seconds or something, but even in that amount of time, I had more fun than I ever got out of Platypus. I'm gonna buy the Leave Home game. It's only three bucks and seems intense enough to have some fun with, unlike the mass of terrible, slow, sidescrolling shooters on the indy service

I'm the exact opposite. I thought the Leave Home demo was, ok. I didn't like the bit trip beat(wii) type graphical layout. While the game seemed cool it was a bit bizarre for me in what you were fighting. Perhaps if i gave it a bit more of a "go" i'd appreciate it more. Leave Home still didn't catch me enough. Especially for 240.

With platypus, you aren't getting a challenging game and there are more enemies on screen than their are bullets. But, the game is fun for that one-time factor and the fact that kids will enjoy it more so than a game like leave home...I'm a sucker for this type of style'd game and the modeling clay aspect of platypus really intrigued me. Granted, platypus is I believe 5-years old. I suppose if this were 5 years ago there would be a few more yay's vs the eh's.

I'm not questioning whether Platypus' graphics are cool. But the game is so simple and vanilla. I've played a lot of 'meh' shmups over the years, and Platypus manages to trump most of them in terms of boring.

Say what you want about Leave Home's graphics. They are well done for a three dollar indy game. Sure, I'd love some beautiful sprites, but at least Leave Home manages to do what pretty much no other XBLA indy game has done: be fun to play. And that's including the Japanese submissions.
