Cave Future plans

Post by Van_Artic »

just noticed the thread on Cave-STG, so i thought to discuss here too:
According to Asada's last blog post, Cave is working on 5 new titles. This does not include ES2BL or DFKBL. (he doesn't specify much details, but all together they total 5):

1)A completely new arcade game ("completely" implies it's not a sequel to anything)
2)Original Xbox 360 game
3)Xbox 360 arcade port(s)
4)Development on "new hardware"

At the Cave festival on 12/27, he'll be able to talk about it.
so, let's go speculation mode:

the number 3) is what hits me, other than Guwange; can't be DS2, Asada said that will be get ported later; i'm thinking of Pink Sweets or Ibara Kuro, or maybe Donpachi and Dodonpachi for XBLA
let's hope for DS localization instead
Muchi Muchi is also strongly considered, since Kotaku let this news "run away" on the internet

about 1): as long as it's not 3D like DS2, it's ok, i don't really like the graphics of that game

2) will prolly be an exclusive without arcade release (and thus, the 360 power will be used full-force)

and finally of 4) i have no fucking idea

ps: i want Ketsui ;_;

1) Good.
2 & 3) Everyone who doesn't own a 360 by now is nuts.
4) Would suggest that DDP DFK BL is the last SH3 game. The only really popular hardware doing the rounds in Japan right now is the Taito Type X2, but as we saw of DS2, Cave's 3D artists aren't very accomplished.
They need to find a hardware platform that will offer them room to develop as a company, so with less limitations than SH3 - but I don't think they need to go too far off the beaten path. They might have other ideas though.
ps: i want Ketsui ;_;
Don't wait up. If it does see the light of day with 5pb, it'll be crap anyway - those guys can't deliver the goods. Perhaps Cave are trying to wean the development rights off of them.

i still remember those people on gamefaqs boards saying "we need more cave games on the PS2!"

Cave's not going to talk about it until they fix DOJBLEX, i guess

in my current situation, i preffer physical copies of my games, so in case they intend to release something for the XBLA service, heres hoping for it to be older games (like Guwange or DP or DDP), cuz if its something like Pink Sweets or something, i wont be able to play them unless i get a new console, and am not planning on doing so in a long time.

After playing Futari Arrange quite a bit, I hope that new CAVE title is non-slowdown based as it really feels fresh, yet keeps the whole CAVE vibe going. If the DS2 hardware can handle the amount of bullets without slowdown in beautiful high res, then go with it CAVE.

Also, let's hope that the Ketsui port somehow goes into M2's hands instead.

AMEN to that brotha!... we've been waiting for that Ketsui port for awhile now, and its been proven that M2 knows how to do a proper port, so it'd be great if they handled it instead of 5PB ... and if they happened to release it next year, tht'd be the bomb.

Original Xbox360 game? I'm guessing that this is just referring to some kinda 360 Arrange mode of one of their arcade releases that is getting a port.

No, I think it means an original game developed just for the console - a non-arcade release.

IMO, you have to look at the situation:

if you imply that the first title will be brand new (so not part of an already existing series), another brand new console title (same as before) and a port of a game that was made already, it's not going to happen

i would like DDP or ESP Ra.De. on XBLA rather than Guwange

That still leaves the 4th game on "new hardware" a mystery though, unless they said somewhere that they're no longer revisiting old franchises.

I dunno, wishful thinking.

Apparently the likelihood of a MMP port on any format is practically nil, so dream on it is.

I would say so. Even if the export numbers for Futari didn't get up to expectations, I don't see why they would lock down future titles, it's not like they lose money from it, and it's a far less risky business venture than trying to secure a US or EU publisher.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I certainly hope not :D

Also, I'm really hoping (though doubting) that Cave will continue to do 2D in some form. KOFXII showed that TTX2 is capable of good quality 2D. Only thing I'm curious is that if future tate games will still use 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9 (which IMO would be too tall).

Yeah man, like early 90's Irem apocalyptic style! Or over an Akira style futuristic Neo Tokyo covered in Neon displays (Last Resort had the best one of these in a shmup I reckon) - then they could at least squeeze looping video animations of loli's on them everyone would be happy. :)

I personally don't find DS dark. unless your talking color palette exclusively. Even then it's debatable. It was not horrific or scary, just Halloween goofiness. Look a the the maid and her dragon for example or sakura's options. It's all very cute and light hearted.

Guwange 2 would be one of the only titles I would really like to see a sequel to, since it was more "different" than the rest of the Cave games.

I would pass out if they made a sequel to it, but ONLY if Jun came back to do designs. If he didn't, I wouldn't be interested.

As for the "pedo fantasy" thing.

Sad to say, this is probably true. Now, I loved DS style, but I didn't like the lolitas. But it seems like all their stuff now is more cutesy, and I don't think they're going to stray from that. I don't feel like the Galuda's are in this category, so that's one of the reasons I'm so psyched for part 2. The last of the non-cutesy Cave games(as Ketsui is the last manly one).

I have a strong feeling that the "Original Xbox 360 game" will be a full 3D hori shmup designed with 16:9 support in mind.

They did say that MMP was being considered for an XBLA release at some point, right? I don't think I'd buy it if it were a full-priced retail release. I watched a gameplay video not too long ago, and was really turned off by it. 4 minutes of boss-milking (on just the first level alone) is not my idea of fun, but to each their own.
