Mushihimesama PS2 pre-orders confirmed! (was: Is this real?)
I can't bring myself to read this whole thread, so forgive me if this is all old news. I just got Arcadia #062 which has some info on the home port and I thought I'd post it. It's marginally interesting/surprising news, but here goes:
1) The game will include a gallery. I know, big shocker.
2) Clover-TAC is doing the super-play again. RAD.
3) It would seem that the figure in the limited edition is of a little girl holding a beetle.
Please note that I don't read Japanese so I could be wrong.

There's a superplay? Wonder if it's a seperate DVD or in-game replay like they have on doj and galuda. Now I need to hold off ordering to see if it's the LE only that gets it...8 1/2 wrote:I can't bring myself to read this whole thread, so forgive me if this is all old news. They also had in-game replay playback with some playthroughs of each level included on the game disk. It's just that none of the preorder places list 'dvd' with Mushi, so now I'm wondering wtf.sffan wrote:What do you mean? Okay I got ya. I never knew about the playthroughs on the game disks of doj & galuda. I'll have to look for those when I get home.zakk wrote:They also had in-game replay playback with some playthroughs of each level included on the game disk. I'm assuming Mushi has a DVD included, only because that would be consistent with the other PS2 Cave releases. I'm also assuming they care about consistency.

SHOOT IT QUICKLY !

It doesn't, and they apparently don't. Look up one post.I'm assuming Mushi has a DVD included, only because that would be consistent with the other PS2 Cave releases. I'm also assuming they care about consistency.

It has stage select in it... there's no reason to think they won't have super replays either... just not on a DVD. As before, I like the replays better since the DVD wasn't in TATE mode.zakk wrote:I wonder what it was 8 1/2 saw then. Granted, he can't read japanese, so maybe he misunderstood. I'm sure someone that can read japanese will get the issue and report back in due time, still makes me hold off on the preorder for now, tho.

That would be a REALLY boneheaded omission, methinks...offhand I remember someone saying that the game disc would be DVD format instead of CD format, which (IIRC) can hold more stuff than the latter...hopefully that's at least an indication that this isn't a "stripped down" port, with only the "bare minimum" game included...then again, tate mode could almost be called "standard" in Japanese vert releases, very few games don't include it to begin with. Here's to hoping...
Just to clarify, here's what I saw:
There's a full page article on the PS2 port of the game. At the bottom is a green bar that has a screenshot of a big beetle shooting out pink patterns that look like squid tentacles. In the text of this box, the english words PS2 & TAC are visible several times and then highlighted in bold at the edge.
On the side of the page is a pink box with a drawing of a little girl holding up a beetle in excitement. She's standing on a small patch of grass that looks like the base that a figure would stand on. At the bottom are several exclamation marks. It's separate from the rest of the article and emphasized, so my guess is that this is the limited figurine. Again, just a guess.
One of the screenshots on the page clearly shows a gallery.
Oh, and just to rest everyone's mind.... All the screens are TATE.

I'm going to be moving back to America from Japan in a month or so, and getting a tate-able TV will go on my to-do list sometime after that. I'll have to put up with Mushi in narrow-vision (TM) for a while yet.Dylan1CC wrote: Buy a 20 inch RCA stereo like I have. No component but ghetto tate is better than none.

Ghetto Tate (tm) is when you only have 1 tv, so you set your game to Tate mode and lie on your side (usually on the couch) to play.
Oof, yeah, but that's more like chiropractor-friendly TATE.Metal Gear Okt wrote:That's not "ghetto tate"Dylan1CC wrote:Buy a 20 inch RCA stereo like I have. No component but ghetto tate is better than none.Cthulhu wrote: Hurrah! I don't have a tate-able TV, but... hurrah anyway!

Anyways, hopefully I can get a decently priced 20 inch component someday that I can flip somewhat easily. The problem is Wegas and component TVs in general are much heavier. But anyways, I have never had a problem with composite, it's RF that is the devil. *shudders*
BTW, is there an S-video cable for the PS2?

if this is indeed so, what other options are there that offer the quality component is supposed to deliver?
edit: looked around a bit. some cables which are labeled component have only 3 plugs. what?

A bit OT. If you have some disposable income, allow me to urge you to acquire an SD (non-HD), RGB-compatible TV while you're conveniently located in Japan. There is no better opportunity to get one for us North American types. The shipping to the States is high ($300 for mine) but hey, it's for a product you simply can't get here. (I'd suggest a TV over an arcade monitor for most folks because the guts aren't exposed and it's more user-friendly.)Cthulhu wrote:I'm going to be moving back to America from Japan in a month or so, and getting a tate-able TV will go on my to-do list sometime after that. I got this one. My friend in Kyoto had the 25" model and it was quite nice and very TATEable. It has a special RGB port on the front that's shaped like a PlayStation console's multi-video out port.

Yeah, that's the AV-Multi. It's RGB-compatible.
Here's a list of TV's you can get. The last list on the right are all Sony Wega's.

The first two products on this page are AV Multi -> 21-pin RGB cables.
