Night Slashers PCB

Post by ave »

Yo guys,
I want to buy Night Slashers and I'm asking myself if there's a PCB revision that offers green blood only. Wikipedia says the US board contains a menu that lets the owner decide what blood color he prefers and the JPN board is generally showing red blood but is missing some cutscene artworks, is that accurate information?
Also, are there more versions around other than US and JPN?

Thanks for any advice!
cheers

Inaccurate information. The US version has green blood and no option to switch. It is also missing quite a large amount of cutscenes and has censorship in several places.

The Japanese version has red blood, and no censorship (instead of saying 'go' it says 'go to hell' and one of the characters uses a cross instead of a silly crystal ball in his attack pattern.)
It has all the cutscenes re-instated (no idea why they were removed) and a couple uncensored.

Only downside the JP one is that the US version is in English, and some of the dialogue is very amusing and it's quite nice to have the plot progress the way it does.

Good luck finding either though - they're like gold dust.

Why on earth would you actively want the censored version?

Most people get them romswapped back to something sensible. Indeed that's an option, just get an uncensored one and get new ROMs burned.

Memory is telling me there is the US version- with the option for red blood, but the cross attack is gone as are the cutscenes. There is an asia/korean version that has green blood, then there is the japan version where the cutscenes and cross are there, as is the red blood- but all the text is in Japanese. I've owned a few of each (I'll have to see which version I ended up keeping here in a bit)- it's all the same basic board set with variations in capacitors used mostly. Rom swap is 2 (at the most) roms- hobbyroms.com did me for very cheap.

That being said- part of the draw of the game is the red stuff-curiosity has me why you'd want green?

I think he's trying to avoid that actually.

Green does seem to be a good color for nasty rotten monster blood though.

The censored version has it's good points. As mentioned the goofy story has it's own merits and keeps you playing.

I've been after this board a while too, good luck in your search.

Actually I have an offer of a bare English board w/green blood for 150 Euros. It's very likely that it's the American version that cannot changed to uncut, a pity really. I want this game so damn hard.... can't be arsed to pay that money for a censored game (although the green blood looks Fulci-ish, which underlines the trashy style) even though I'm really tempted. :(

Just buy it, swap the ROMs. It's just two code roms which are socketed.

I can burn you a set, wouldn't cost very much - I think I've even got spare chips so you wouldn't need to send the old ones along, just a few pounds to cover the chips and 10 minutes of my time, plus postage.

That or get this via a proxy service:

http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k123904411

Comes with inserts etc, duty/shipping costs will drive it up but there you go. I'd get it myself, but it's a tight month.

Sorry, you might be right about that actually - I think the Asia version has green blood and no option - but English text throughout.

Very tempting, but it's not a BIN auction and 20k is just the starting bid. The last NS I watched on yahoo went up to 45k and even lacked inst/art

@bloodflowers
Wow, now that'd be an option. I don't have an EPROM writer and don't know any people with one (but you, apparently), so I hesitated. Can you make me an offer with shipping and all? I'd buy that cut Night Slashers right away then :)

So is the Asian version just the same as the US version on defaults? It feels that way to me.

I just got the confirmation of the seller, the US board's mine =)
Kudos to bloodflowers whose offer I thankfully accept. May the jpn ROMset be mine soon so I can switch between censored Westernized bullshit to incomprehensible JPN splatter exploitation crazyness whenever I like to :D

You did the right thing, especially for the price you found it at. Rom swapping is a cinch on this board, so you can have both versions for completeness. :o
