Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype: PS3

Post by Kron »

Can't say I was a fan of the first one, The music was the only thing they got right imho.

Anyway a sequel has been announced for the PS3.

The Press Release:

Entertainment and developer SideQuest Studios are excited to announce Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype. The sequel to the popular shoot 'em up game is guaranteed to deliver another fantastic fast-paced arcade-style experience and will be one of the must-have downloadable action titles on the PlayStation®Network coming Winter 09/10.

In Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype, you will return to Gota IV as part of the Söldner-X defense force. Mankind will once more rely on your battle against new mysterious powers. Staged across seven unique action-loaded levels accompanied with an adrenaline pumping soundtrack, Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype combines traditional 2D gameplay with detailed high definition graphics and a taste of fresh innovations.

"We received an amazing feedback upon the launch of Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer, which has encouraged the whole team to work on a sequel", said Marcus Pukropski, CEO of SideQuest Studios. "With Söldner-X 2, our main goal is to please fans of the first part as well as new gamers alike. I am especially excited about the introduction of a new dynamic score-linked difficulty mode, which adjusts to the skills of each individual player."

Key features:
Seven unique action-loaded levels with fierce boss battles, staged across Underwater Worlds, Ice Caves, Tunnel Worlds, Space and other deadly scenarios.
High definition graphics with 3D backgrounds in up to 1080p.
Dynamic score-linked difficulty system, making the game accessible for newcomers, yet challenging and rewarding for hardcore gamers.
Two new playerships with their own characteristics and weapon systems to choose from.
Brand new limit attacks and fourfold chaser system.
New bullet pattern system.
Detailed online high score ranking tables and replay file sharing.
Hidden bonus elements, including a tribute to Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer.
Adrenaline pumping soundtrack with more than 15 unique tracks and over a hundred sound effects.

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype is currently in development exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 system with an anticipated release coming Winter 09/10. More details are bound to be made public in the near future.

Oh, god...

Sorry, but even that teaser pic just oozes cheapness, especially the flame "2" logo.

Oh well, no point in being critical. Let's see what they do.

Cool stuff, although I doubt that a heavy rank system will attract a lot of people. Who will be doing the music?

Why I always feel worried when I read this? "Dynamic score-linked difficulty mode" that adjusts to your skill, in short: rank, right?

However, in this case it could be a good thing so let's not judge in vain or for no real reason.

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype is currently in development exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3 system with an anticipated release coming Winter 09/10. More details are bound to be made public in the near future.
Sadly, this was the real turn off... I got the PC® version (and unlike most people I actually quite liked it despite it was left out from the updates/fixes/patches of the PS3 counterpart... something unforgivable considering how damn good the whole presentation was) and I much preferred something like the original L.E. instead of a downloadable thing.

However, guess it IS a good thing for the PS3 owners.

Ah, yeah, the composer really rocks. The music was awesome.

You just know it's going to be something special when the amount of sound effects are included in the feature list.

I guess the one positive about buying the first one is I definitely know I have no interest in a second helping.

It's probably going to be more of a 1.5. But hey, they can slap a 2 on it if they really want.

The "New bullet pattern system", along with new ships and different weapons sound promising. Hopefully some of these new weapons will be powerful enough to blow something up. The first game was also devoid of bullet patterns, and interesting bosses, so hopefully they're working on that. I'm not going to trash the game until I see it in action. Then I'll trash it.

I'd say the new ship looks nicer in comparison at least.

I just wish I could figure out how to play the first game on my friend's PS3. Going through the transaction history for my account makes it look as though I never even bought it. Silly PSN. :/

It's getting pathetic, really. That Raystorm HD remake can't come soon enough.
As for this - I'll reserve judgment till I see more; the first one left a bitter taste...

The beam was the only 'weak' weapon and it was designed that way. I don't see why people complain about the bullet patterns in Soldner-X - most horizontal shmups don't have bullet patterns as such.

That's not really a good excuse. "See, these other games suck, so it's ok if ours does too!"..

That's not what I'm saying. In horizontal shmups, it's usually about the enemy placement, enemy waves or navigating around environmental hazards. Apart from Progear, name me a few other horizontal shmups with intricate bullet-hell style patterns, because I can't think of any.

PriZhm, same creator of Zillion Beatz. (Stage 3 boss in particular looks nice)

The recently released Arcanum Echo goes quite quickly into bullet hell past stage 2.

And, obviously, Death Smiles.

edit: back to this game, they need to kill that 2 right now and call it Final Prototype (or The Final Prototypes if there are going to be more ships) alone. Works better that way. And proper retail PC version plz.

All the weapons are weak, as in they can't blow up anything. As far as the bullet patters go, I would expect to see something from a boss, or midboss at least. Pretty much every hori has bosses that spit out some sort of interesting patterns to dodge. It's constructive criticism, don't take it personally. I spent more hours playing this game than any human should have, so my opinion is educated.

I spent plenty of time playing it as well. Saying 'they can't blow up anything' is just hyperbole. The bow weapon is easily capable of blowing up most stuff and if you add the armor breaker power up (or whatever it was called), you'll have little trouble destroying everything.

Oh look, bullet patterns. I'm sure people be able to find something else to complain about though.

No, they were really awful, especially at the start of the game, or any time you were powered down.

How about the fact that your weapons cover up the enemy bullets? It's like the devs have never played a real shooter before.

In the meantime feast your mince pies over these latest pics, sure to bring a warm Christmassy glow to even the most hardened of shmup' fans hearts.
Christmas for shmuppers is over. Mushi is out already. It took all of two screenshots to realize something troubling...your shots cover up enemy patterns.

Looks like more of the same, but probably refined. Looks good enough for anyone who can tolerate/enjoy euroshmups, if it's budget priced like the first one on PSN.
