Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
I say leave it as it is. "There is a potential arcade quiz kill screen coming up, if anyone is interested."

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Gahrling thought it was a kill screen too, but it isn't, and it isn't fair on him when he's obviously capable of more than 572pts. He should have the opportunity to challenge the all time No.1 spot with over 1,200pts.
Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Owned with 156 points (#15 all time). First try of the day. I took my time as much as possible.
One of the ones I missed was Arabian Fight, too (LOL). Lots of good screens, few that I'd seen before. I was at seven choices for quite a while - I maybe even got up to eight. No idea what the last one was. You know, some of the early 80s games (obviously DemonEye-X) that look empty make me wonder if we're seeing correct graphics. It's also an extra challenge when the screenshot is filtered blurry and nasty (Scramble Spirits, and the text in the lower right hand corner of the Xybots looks blurrier than I think is right).

kill screen
Great work, there's a lot of shmuppers on the leaderboard. We need a high score board here or something, haha.
DEL, grats on your top 5 overall! How many choices does this cap at, 10?

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Thanks
To be honest I'm not sure...I think it was at 6 or 8, I was concentrating too much on the screen clues to notice. I do remember a Donkey Kong interlude screen appearing at 500punkte.
One thing I'm curious about is the top end for this quiz? I'm handicapping myself, playing pre 1988 only. I have to figure there's more top end mileage on the All Games option that Gahrling is playing.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
This is pretty cool. Never seen it before. Got 129 after a few games, but should be able to do better. I'm good on the 85 and newer games. It's those obscure older games that get me.
Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
At least early on the formula is number of options = [completed questions / 25] + 2. So based on question #:
1-25: 2
26-50: 3
51-75: 4
76-100: 5
101-125: 6
126-150: 7
That's as far as I got, so maybe it caps out at 8? It doesn't really matter, I was just curious. My guess was 10 just because that's a nice round number.

It capped at 8, as far as I noticed.
Addictive game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game creator hasn't fixed it
The game broke on me at....dare I write it....666punkte!
No screenshot displayed, yet the countdown continued as Gahrling mentioned on Neo Empire
.
I went from 250 to 666 on my last life and I guess I would have made 700+ if the damn thing didn't break.
Thankfully it broke when I was 2 points higher than the all time rank 4 guy. I suppose that's some kind of consolation.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Ok it turns out I 1CC'd the Quiz (the 'pre 1988' option).
This explains there not being a screenshot for the 667th point.
Copy/Paste from my thread on Neo Empire:-

My reply; You using "All Games" or "Pre 1989"?
If the latter, then it could be explained if they only have approx 666 games in that particular database (even though some of the screenshots are repeated). Probably the same reason why the other guy got such a similar score to you, as well as the top 3 scores.
Assuming that the other database hold approx 600 screenshots, that's a max score of 1266. Seeing as the top scores to date have been 1229 - 1233 punkte, seems like that could be the limit.
If only there were a finish screen for each quiz..
In short, I'm sure we're not the only people to get pissed off.
Yup, I think you're right. I maxed out the Quiz for the 'pre1988' games.
A 1 Credit Clear.
It makes sense that the other record for 'all games' is in the 1,200 area.
I posted a question about the max limit of game screens for pre1988 last week on the shmups forum. Seems like I was right about the finite limit to the quiz.
As you say though, there should be a COMPLETION screen.
Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
^Cheers
Very apt indeed. Advanced Course is the 'All Games' option with a 1,200pts max. I'll push on, but such a game will be 2 hours+

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Yay!
226 punkte!
Only 10 points away from an effective #9 all-time (discounting repeat offenders) due to stupidly picking Astro Warrior for a vector game (I'd already seen the sequel in this session too). I tried to play this a few days ago, did really badly. Today, had a session that fizzled out, restarted once, got the score above. Flooded Arasoi's chat winda posting the games and my comments about them.
Also, come to think of it I got fucked over on Star Luster because the evil, evil quiz put Star Jacker at the top (I shoulda known better - already had seen it in that run, just picked and clicked without thinking). Without those two mistakes I'd still be going.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Yeah the early ones can be nasty, especially the Gremlin ones.
The later ones that give no clue are nasty too, like Prebillian, Robby Roto, Digger and Dazzler.
One of the worst is 'Space Position' which sounds like an early shooter but is a driving game
.
Gravitar, Cerberus, Rafflesia, Stratovox, Grobda and Radical Radial aren't exactly obvious either.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Some of the ones you mentioned I know on sight (by now, heh), but a fair number of those haven't even shown up in my games. I think they could improve on the randomization, possibly. Prebillian has two Ls just like there's two Ls in Billiards, and I'd never miss Stratovox (aka Speak and Rescue, aka gigantic spot burned into the right side of the monitor). Space Position I'd get now. Net Wars is another odd one. I got a bunch of vector games trying to throw me out of the game last night, but I passed them all. Games in the style of Crash by Exidy drive me nuts but they're easy to name. Snacks'n Jaxson got me the first time or two I saw it; I thought it was another game I'd seen and hadn't noticed the things flying around were pizza slices and apples. I love all the old games with the name on the screen (that I don't notice until after I've made my choice). There's still some that I got in that last run that I really shouldn't have, so I guess it evens out. Oddly some of the ones you mentioned I haven't seen in a game yet though, while others always seem to show up.
Yesterday the game had some suspiciously sneaky offerings. For example, in one Area 88 was listed as an option above '88 Games, the correct choice. The game got me later with Star Jacker as the first option underneath a 3D cockpit-view shooter, which probably was Star Luster. That one was aggravating because I know both games; I've played Star Luster and possibly another just like it in an NES emulator as well.
Some of the nice things about the screen game are getting to remember how I like the look of Williams games (post-Defender and Robotron 2084, they have similar sorts of color but a lot more detail), or finding fun little games like Leland's Pig Out, which looks like utter garbage from the screenshot, but is actually a fun game. I think some of us should get together and make a "tougher" version of this game with more screenshots and more games.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Its weird how a lot of the early games are Balloon and Mouse obsessed.
King and Balloon, Balloon Fight, Crazy Balloon, Canyon Bomber (air balloons) and more..
Mouser, Cheeky Mouse, Mouse Hunt, Cat and Mouse etc.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Time to revive this addictive quiz (at least I found it to be so).

I failed hard. Got 7.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
I'm falling asleep, only got 100. Didn't bother entering the score.

660 more to go to beat me, and if you really want to show who's TLB then play the 'All Games' option to go for 1,200+ pts.
Did you just try it once?I failed hard. Got 7

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
I'll definitely fire this up when I have more time. I used to thoroughly enjoy quiz things like this when I was a kid but didn't expect to fail so hard - just like a newcomer playing Stage 1 of anything shmup-related.DEL wrote:BPzeBanshee wrote;Did you just try it once?I failed hard. Got 7

Nice score btw, and thanks for bumping this so I got to notice.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Thanks. I became a bit addicted to it for a week or so. I couldn't master the newer games option so I just kill screened the old timers.
If anything, its an interesting history lesson or a reminder of games you used to play.

Gah, 68. Just when I was going to enter the all-time top-100...

First try landed me on #22 in the all-time board (155pts) for post-1989.
Pretty cool game, I'll try again later.

Re: Arcade Game Screen Quiz
Tried this yesterday and only got 30 points. Figures, I was never an arcade player. Most of my gaming as a kid/teen was on consoles, which explains how well I did in the other quiz.
