While the purists may argue that the PS2 Arika ports are the closest to PCB perfection, this port is nothing short of a miracle. The wealth of options is frankly ridiculous and the results are stunning, which ever way you choose to diaplay it.

The 4x sharp scanline option is about the closest your're going to get to 240p on the 360 - I can't get over how amazing arcade mode looks when properly set up. I'd kill for a DeathSmiles update with the same filter options to make arcade mode look this pretty.

If this is the standard for Cave ports from here on in, we can all breath a sigh of relief as long as the 360 is around. :D

I'm breathing a sigh of relief every time my X360 boots up without RRoD already. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Just that if original is novice mode then yep Im crap  I did try manic mode quickly and that reminded me more of the bend over and eat the bullets of DDPDJ.
When you select Arrange from the main menu, you get to choose between Arrange and Novice. I had a hard time finding it myself, but just really run it when I have a novice visiting. :D

I decided to credit-feed through Original on a whim, because I've never seen past stage 3 in Original (only Maniac and Ultra)... Stages 4 and 5 were really, really scary. I can't even see clearly see the bullets toward the end of stage 5. I don't know how people manage to do it, but kudos to them!

Me? I have a whole lot more training to do, hahaha.

I have 2 copies on the way from Japan in the next day or so (one for an xmas present.) I'm in no rush, I've got the 1.5 PCB to make use of (tackling maniac at the mo.)
Looking forward to sampling 1.01 and Black Label mainly.

did you just recently get the PCB?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Not quite as sharp as the last one, Youtube is truncating all my videos if they're avi and over 1gb, even though the limit is supposed to be 2 now...

This one is Sony AVC, 40,000,000 bitrate on the video or something...

Lol, I'm having issues with Stage 5 in particular in Novice Original. Stage 4, once you're in "the zone", can be all sorts of fun. Of course, I'm really only playing the Novice mode for now since... wait, am I really that bad, or is the game just that difficult normally? I can run through 1-3 and maybe 4 on Novice a-ok. I'll be watching videos to figure out how to map my way through 5...And, eh, survive.

I'm actually not really looking at how to get a high score, I'm just trying to survive. I'll get to scoring tactics more seriously once I 1CC or something. (Since I always mess up when I try to go for score...)

So far I've run into a few bugs:

1.) Feet/various parts of the Stage 1 boss go pink.
2.) Stage 3 boss shoots numbers (text) at me instead of bullets.
3.) Various sprites are sometimes scrambled.

I believe all of these showed up during Arrange mode, so that brings down their importance a bit. Still, they're a bit disconcerting.

Umm... isn't that an indication that you're about to have an RRoD?

I didn't experience any anomalies like that. My game froze a couple of times, and then:

Maybe this was explained elsewhere, but I bought the regular game, pre-order, from play-asia and my game didn't come with the DLC card. What gives?

Not all pre-order copies shipped out were first-print (which included the card), and not all retailers (most notably P-A) gave first-print copies out to the earliest orderers. I reserved my copy from them pretty much as soon as the game became available, and didn't get one either.

this sounds really funny

do these glitches show up in replays? I haven't had any glitches in Arrange yet, but I did get #3 on X360 Maniac, once.
Umm... isn't that an indication that you're about to have an RRoD?
Maybe; when my first JPS2 died enemy sprites stopped loading in Mushi 1. I had just started playing it and it confused the hell out of me.

Dumb question, but do you have to be on your Japanese account to qualify for the leaderboards?

More like 'pretty much every LE'. The faceplate stickers are exclusive to the special offer from CAVE themselves.

I just got around to playing arrange and it's fun and all, I don't really understand it even after 1ccing original and maniac. Mainly what I'm wondering is what triggers the large gems, it seemed like 90% of the time I was getting the small ones, and when I got the big ones I had no clue why.

Large gems drop in fever mode, you need to get both counters to 9999 and use your focus/A shot to activate. After this your counters will drop while everything spews giant gems. Since your counters are both dropping anyways, just hold focus for the duration and try to keep stuff alive.

You're not really expected to flinch dodge any of the fast moving stuff. It's all aimed straight at you, or at you with offsets at every so many degrees, so once you get a feel for your ship all you need to do is watch the enemies fire and nudge yourself a small amount so it sails past. Or, during popcorn rushes, just keep moving. Ideally you want to move diagonal upwards as you approach the sides, then down - it makes it's easier to turn around. Just gotta take your eyes of your ship and have a little faith.

This game definitely feels harder than the original Mushi. After a week I'm still having more problems than usual with the difficulty of Futari, with my typical approach of trying to play by twitch without intentional pattern memorizing...

Do such general tactics hold true in Futari for most stages & enemies in standard Original and Maniac modes?

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully that'll make getting through stage 3 a bit easier. I've managed to get to the boss a couple times, but then I get wrecked. My scores are abyssmal - my highest on Original is 42.6 million. I'm getting better at stage one though... I usually score 11-13 million, now I'm getting around 16 pretty consistently. I can't wait to get off work so I can play some more. =(

Got a FK a little over a month ago for a very good price (and part trade). I've 1cc'd original twice now (score is in the thread) but I'm still eager to get a better run to push my score up. I know I can do it, just need to be more economical with bombs (as in, actually remember to use them. )
Looking forward to tackling Maniac next, but I'm going to ignore Ultra entirely - God mode on the BL DLC will be a more natural progression if I manage to clear Maniac.
Ultra is retarded hard.

You've received a copy from the 2nd print run. No DLC for you unfortunately.

Dude, that sounds like a waste of money. You could always put the box back on your shelf when you finish playing it.

Are the Friends Leaderboards working OK for everybody? I've only got one other friend on my friends list who has this game, but he isn't showing on any of the Leaderboards when I select the Friends filter.

Are you sure he's played the same mode that you've selected for the leaderboard? It has separate leaderboards for each mode and difficulty, so if you're looking at 1.5 Original and your friend's only played Arrange Original, he's not going to show up on that leaderboard.
