Sup? Long time lurker here. Never bothered registering, because my skills are pitiful (I got super excited when I beat 10mil on DDP yesterday). However, I thought I'd share this.
I downloaded the source code for Mame OSX (v0.135) and Mame (v0.135u2), made a couple of changes to make save states work with the Cave games (as per what someone said in this thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=18702) -- not sure if they are/were broke in others, or even anything other than DDP and DP, never cared -- and re-compiled. Since no other Mame client I've found on OSX can do it.
Only potential downfall is every now and then, the gameplay speeds up to (I would guess) around 500% for a split second. Not sure if that's the fault of my system or the emulator, though, and it's not that frequent.
Anyway, if anyone's interested, I'm happy to share.
Mame OSX with Save States
Re: Mame OSX with Save States
I can test that out, got a first generation intel mac mini with 10.4 . MAME OS X is a great emulator, I'm glad they started updating it again, I think the project was dead for over a year?

Re: Mame OSX with Save States
I did exactly what you did with recompiling MAME OS X to get save states to work about a few months ago, but definitely found the speed glitch to be a complete deal-breaker for me. It happens 90% of the time around 10-25 seconds after I load a save state and I always end up spontaneously dying or ruining chains because of it. Really frustrating. I guess it's better than nothing, but you're much better off running MAME on windows through boot camp at this point.
Re: Mame OSX with Save States
I guess it is indeed a glitch rather than my machine, then. I don't know enough to fiddle with that myself, but here it is anyway, maybe someone else can figure it out: http://drop.io/mameosx Happy to share the source, but it's just the latest version of Mame and Mame OSX with the changes in that thread, so it shouldn't be difficult to recreate yourself.
And now that you mention it, I only ever notice it after loading a state too. So presumably it's something to do with the "fix" in that thread. Is there a better workaround perhaps?

Re: Mame OSX with Save States
Probably not, save states usually mess shit up in all versions of MAME. Some games more than others.

Re: Mame OSX with Save States
Not related to save states, but does the latest version of MAME OS X still have lopsided sound? Games would sound louder in the right-hand speaker for some reason, no matter what version I used before. That's another reason I left for the windows version.
Re: Mame OSX with Save States
Wow, strange.. I had the exact same problem on the previous version, but it only appeared after months of use so I thought my comp was just messing up. Better report this on the official board if it hasnt been already. Audio works fine for me on 0.135 though.Schrodinger's cat wrote:Not related to save states, but does the latest version of MAME OS X still have lopsided sound?
