I want to 1cc a game
I want to 1cc a game
Hey,
I really want to 1cc a shmup. What are some opinions on the best games to start with. I think I'm pretty decent but haven't completed any of the games. Here is where I am on a few:
DoDonpachi: 5 boss
DDP DOJ: 4th level
ESPGaluda: Last boss once
Thanks

Re: I want to 1cc a game
If your playing Espgaluda on PS2 try focusing of the final 3 bosses in Arcade simulation. If you just want a 1cc period I can recommend some very easy games.
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
Re: I want to 1cc a game
Battle Bakraid has been the first 1cc for a whole bunch of people around here, should be a good place to start.

Re: I want to 1cc a game
Out of the three you suggested, go for Dodonpachi. You can already reach the 5th boss, with some more persistence you should beat it. Don't bother with DOJ, it's one of the hardest shooters out there. As for ESPGaluda, some people say it's easy but I've never done it.
Re: I want to 1cc a game
Deathsmiles. It's pretty easy, but satisfying enough. Once you 1CC, then try for the all Level 3 1CC. We're at about the same shmup skill level judging by your progress in other games and Deathsmiles was my first 1CC (I came awful close to ESPGaluda 1CC though).

Re: I want to 1cc a game
Some relatively easy arcade shmups: 1941, 1943 Kai, U.N. Squadron / Area 88, Gradius, Fire Barrel, Gekirindan, OutZone (easier version). Darius Gaiden is pretty easy if you use full autofire. Just avoid the top and bottom routes, Titanic Lance (Zone M), and Crusty Hammer (Zones P, R, and T, I believe).
If you can find a copy, I recommend Raiden DX for the PS1. On normal difficulty, the training and novice courses are very doable.

Re: I want to 1cc a game
DoDonPachi:
This is definitely the easiest of three. If you can just get through earlier stages without losing lives and then use your bombs effectively in last two, this is a straight forward clear.
ESP Galuda:
It is easy but still would require some practice. As someone else said, you would want to practice last few bosses (or any other parts that give you trouble) on stage select.
DDP DOJ:
I haven't cleared it but I have gotten well into stage 5 (just before the first loop boss). Between I didn't play it much, so don't think it's really that much harder. In fact a good number of single loop Cave games are harder than the first loop of this. It still isn't easy though, as the bullets are very closely spaced (alot of times) and you would want to use your hit box well (compared to DDP).
If you try stage select, do try to set rank appropriately. For example, suppose you are practicing stage 4 and you can make through first three stages without losing a life. In that case, you would want to practice the stage 4 on a higher rank. Practice on lower rank can give you a false impression of difficulty.

Thunder Cross (Japan version) is pretty easy for a coin-op.

I'm longing to 1cc at least 1 shmup too. The first shmup I'm playing seriously is Raiden IV. I've reached Stage 5 so far.
I hoped I would start DOJ or mushi futari after this, but this thread isn't encouraging at all

What sort of shooter are you interested in? Only arcade games? There are some fulfilling console-only shooters to single-credit clear.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I agree with deathsmiles..... I 1CCed it pretty easy with all level 2 stages.Deathsmiles. It's pretty easy, but satisfying enough. Once you 1CC, then try for the all Level 3 1CC. Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

One of the few ports I'd quite like to try sometime, just to compare difficulty to the PCB.saucykobold wrote:If you can find a copy, I recommend Raiden DX for the PS1. On normal difficulty, the training and novice courses are very doable.
Re: I want to 1cc a game
Sengoku Blade would be a good one to try, even i've cleared the first loop (my only one so far). Just make sure you choose the secret passage when given a choice of routes at the end of stage 5 and it shouldnt take too long
Re: I want to 1cc a game
Novice mode of Futari = pretty much guaranteed 1CC on the first or second playthrougn. If that counts as a "legit" 1CC for you, haha.HamidoOs wrote:I hoped I would start DOJ or mushi futari after this, but this thread isn't encouraging at all
Original mode of Futari is DEFINITELY easier than DOJ, and should be doable for anyone with some practice. (It's what I'm working on at the moment.) Don't get discouraged

And possibly do-able on the first try, to boot. I suck so hard at these games, it took my second try at it to clear itZeetherKID77 wrote:Gun Nac. Anyone can 1cc it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm open to pretty much any arcade game besides the newest shooters. I have two cabs a vert blast city and a regular stand up. I tried Battle Bakraid and beat it in 3 credits my first time so I think that should be doable. I beat novice mode in Futari without dying my first game, I don't think that should count.... I'll try out some of these other suggestions.
Thanks

Re: I want to 1cc a game
Blue Wish Resurrection and Harmful Park are also very easy.
But i don't think they're satisfying.
The most satisfying easy 1cc is Batrider normal course imo.

The bottom route is easier? I had the impression that the last boss in that route is much harder than the other one.Mero wrote:Sengoku Blade would be a good one to try, even i've cleared the first loop (my only one so far). Re: I want to 1cc a game
DDP has 6 stages so he's got a bit to go. ESPGaluda would be the easiest, just use practice mode and play the parts you have trouble with so you can get through everything consistently. Tip on last boss very 1st form, shoot one wing and leave the other one so you only have to dodge half the pattern. On the very final form you can just tap bomb and let it go to the side, repeat, then use kakusei when you run out of bombs. If you reach that last form with a spare life or two you can clear for free pretty much.Skykid wrote:Definitely Dodonpachi - you're almost there already!
But for me it's more about just playing a game I enjoy, and also playing for score even if I can't clear a game. At one point I was just like 'oh I should try to 1cc something' and played DDP for like a week. I got to the last boss semi-consistently but I just didn't enjoy the game that much since I don't care for the score system. So while you could just play some piss easy game and clear it, so what? Make sure you also like the game!

Re: I want to 1cc a game
I almost 1cc'd Salamander 2. The Salamander games were fun for me, and I found them way less frustrating than Gradius, hilariously enough. At least, that's the way it was for me...
Let's see, you should most definitely try to work up in Dodopachi and Espgaluda. I've never played Espgaluda, but considering how far you've gotten there, you should try that. Alternating between Dodonpachi and Espgaluda is good too, since you're far enough in both, and it's refreshing to alternate shmups, as I've found.
Believe me, I've had my butt whooped in DDP once, so I went and blew off some steam in another game (this alternates between Progear, Esprade, and Raiden). It really helps.

Re: I want to 1cc a game
Salamander 2 is definitely among the easier Konami arcade titles, outside of a fairly tricky last stage. Provided you keep the rank down by ditching an option or two regularly, that is. The bullet and enemy speed gets angry otherwise.

Re: I want to 1cc a game
You could give Capcom's 1986 Hyper Dyne Sidearms PCB a spin...with enough practice, it's 1CC do-able. The default auto-fire powerup on Sidearms is much faster than if you were to use an external auto-fire PCB setup. The PCB makes use of an 8-way digital joystick + three buttons per player.
The only difference between the original JPN and USA versions of Sidearms is extra animated title screen and different game pricing via dipswitch settings for the JPN version -- other than those two bits, both are the same in terms of difficulty, gameplay, & game mechanics. If Sidearms is played on a big arcade RGB monitor, resizing it is easier on the eyes considering that the original Sidearms game was played on a 19" RGB monitor setup anyways.

Also try Air Buster. Although it has some "know what to do or die horribly" sections, especially towards the end, it's doable.

I would also recommend Battle Bakraid. Game is pretty easy and it's also fairly simple to get a few extends before the last stage.
DDP is a good one too.
Deathsmiles also but I find it to be pretty boring if you're just going to go through and choose rank 1 for each stage. Kind of like beating Futari on Novice. Doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment.

I've gotten pretty close with Fire Shark and MUSHA on Genesis, and I'm dreadful at most shooters.

Thunder Force III.

Re: I want to 1cc a game
If you're playing DOJ and Espgaluda, I'll take you have a PS2 able to play JP games.
Get Shienryu Explosion. I 1cc it on my first try. It's incredibly easy.
You can also try to track down Harmful Park. It's a PS1 title, and I believe it's rather expensive, but it's also very easy, I also 1cc this one on my first try.
Both games also will give you a nice challenge if you try to play them for score, so it isn't a stupid 1CC and then throw the game away.
I never 1cc a Cave game (not even a 1st loop), and I've 1cc some moderately hard games (Gigawing and Armed Police Batrider for example)... Their games have something that make them very hard to me. But of all of them, the original Dodonpachi and Mushihime-sama in original mode are 2 that I think I could do it if I gave them some proper time (I am now playing Mushi, have been able to reach level 4 without much practice.. my score sucks though, as usual
