Arkedo Series - 01 JUMP

Post by neist »

Anyone else catch this? I stumbled across a video of it in my youtube subscriptions.

Arkedo (if anyone isn't aware) is the studio that developed Big Bang Mini and Nervous Brickdown. I have yet to try the demo, but I will do so tonight after work.

Oh neat!

What exactly is the mechanic with the bombs? Do you have limited amount of time to complete the levels before they explode?

Yes, though the game itself is not on a timer. Each bomb has its own timer, and you need to diffuse all of them to get the exit door to open. Once that's done, though, you can do whatever you like for as long as you like in a level, which is good if you want to listen to the nice music.

I managed to get to try the trial version of this last night, and I'll definitely be buying it. Quite fun! Hard to argue against buying it when it's only $3.

I was hyped on the fact that it was Arkedo alone. Most people know of Big Bang Mini, but quite a few less people know of Nervous Brickdown, which is equally awesome.

They are definitely one of my favorite developers currently.

Montezuma's Revenge w/ a time bomb mechanic. I used to play it on my friend's Apple IIe. Here's a video:

More people need to get turned onto Arkedo.

They are amazing. ;) You should track down Nervous Brickdown sometime. It's their take on Breakout/Arkanoid.

Yup. More or less.

Watch the first 10 seconds of that. When they show their name at the beginning of their games, the name is pronounced.

It's more Ar-Kay-Dough, but it's mostly the same thing. :)

Incorrect spelling of akeedo. Ah - key - do.

Anyway, yes. YES. THIS is the kind of game that the Xbox Indies needs.

Does anyone know how many levels it has?

Next game is apparently up.

"Arkedo Series - 02 SWAP!"

I'd try it if my Xbox didn't RRoD, but I thought I'd give heads up to anyone else who may be interested.

If these guys have ever played any flavor of Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack / Pokemon Puzzle League, may they be found guilty, hanged, crucified AND lit on fire. Shameful rip-off that is.

Well all their games are shameful rip-offs. :P

Nervous Brickdown is just a gimmicky Breakout, and Big Bang Mini, although probably the most original of their works, wasn't exactly a fresh concept. They just wrapped that concept around the DS' control mechanics.

I'm kind of surprised they released another game this fast. There's only like 3 or 4 of them.

Ripoffs, remixes, tributes...who cares? All of their games are brilliantly simple and simply brillaint
Word on the street is that they plan to release one indie XBL game every month, 5 titles overall.
Hope one of them is a shooting game 'cause big bang mini was my favourite. Go Arkedo! :D

Swap is good. A rip-off of Panel de Pon but good nonetheless. Catchy tunes as well.

I bought this a little while back. As someone who isn't very good at platform games, I thought this took way too long to throw in anything remotely challenging. That's where the novelty of it not looking like complete crap (rest of Xbox indie games) ended.
