Thunder Force VI female announcer

Post by gs68 »

Does anyone have a romanization (NOT translation) of the TFVI female announcer (the one who calls out the stage name and boss warning)'s lines? Thanks.

Not sure if this helps, but the text is all in the defunct (and awesome) Tangut Script.

I don't know what language she is speaking though - an old dialect?

I believe there was a booklet containing some Tangut information along with other TF6 bonus material. This was an early pre-order bonus and possibly only through Sega direct (not SD/Sega Direct, I mean directly, although it's been while perhaps it was SD anyway). Here's the post: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 65#p409265
Here too: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 27#p419227

I always wanted a look at this book, hey Rai82, want to sell me your copy? Anyone else?

Thank you.

And holy crap what kind of other-alphabet-to-katakana transliteration is that

I understand what the tangut romanization means.

For example, the translation of the name Thunder Force VI in tangut romaji is "1di:' 1'yi 1cheu: 2tseu".

So basically it's pronounced in katakana as "di i cheu tseu" if you know Japanese. Anyway, this phrase was heard when the player encounters a bunch of Galaxy Federation Rynex ships in Stage 4.

The highlighted numerals accompanying each tangut romaji are the pinyin tones. Refer to here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin (check under Tones). If you know about Chinese Mandarin, you can figure out how each tangut word sounds. Tangut is an ancient Chinese dialect, so they share a few characteristics in between them. The Japanese call the tangut language "Seika".

It wouldn't make much sense if the Tangut characters would've been pronounced with the same four tones as modern chinese.
The numbers probably stand for a two tone system (because there are only 1 and 2) or maybe they only mark different consonant or vowel qualities. I'm guessing the former, but I don't have too much knowledge about the reconstruction of the phonology, maybe some others can help.

Hello. First of all I would like to say that you have some pretty good and interesting information. Sadly, as I was trying to click on the pictures, they did not show up. So I was wondering if you can re-upload the images for the Tangut language and the Mongolian script from the TFVI handbook. Thanks and have a wonderful night. :)

That post is pretty old and the poster may well not read these forums anymore. I would rather send a private message asking this.
