Shoot the Bullet / Touhou Bunkachou

Post by Enhasa »

Please post scores for this game in the new high score thread. Thanks!

Image

Little do most people know that there is a highly underrated and innovative Touhou game, not named Immaterial and Missing Power. It's Shoot the Bullet, featuring a clever photography theme, ingenius bullet canceling system evolved from Takumi games, bonus chaining like Raiden Fighters Jet, and addictive rRootage-esque pick-up-and-play level structure. Simple to grasp, challenging to master.

In-depth and quality review from dai jou bu (contains useful links at the bottom)

Because I don't want to go insane with tracking each scene, and because the game itself displays these stats, this board will track total score and number of scenes cleared. Submit your scores in the format:

  1. 52,085,410 - MK - ALL85
  2. 40,627,790 - Heartbeam - ALL85

I am at work right now (working hard for the money, lol) so I will edit my score into this post when I get home. Haven't touched this for years but kinda want to return to it at some point.

Edit: Wait, I already had a screenshot uploaded, but it wasn't as a proofpic, it was because I wanted somebody to translate it. In fact, I remember asking mikwuyma about it 2-3 times, but I'm very forgetful and don't know what he said anymore. So could anyone please translate it again for me? Thanks.

18,994,060 - Enhasa - ALL85

BTW this score is simply atrocious given the ALL, my goal at the time wasn't to score well but just to get the ALL clear. In the future, I'd like to play for score and play for speed.

The last time I played I was just so close to 20m that I had to do it. Obviously, I haven't played since. Pretty much all my scores are pathetic though, even my highest score on a single scene (1,978,200 on 10-8) is awful since based on my highest scoring picture I should be able to get over 6m.

Because of the depressingly low number of scores here, I'm going to post my [depressingly low] score:
368,890 - null1024 -11.

Oh, and Enhasa told me to.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Maybe I should start playing this game again and get at least 5,000,000 more points.

Thanks for posting, guys.

Oh snap, there's a translation now? Could you link me to it please? I always kinda wondered what she was saying. Also I hear there's some patch that reduces the input lag in these games. Does that apply to STB?

Don't make fun of my out of the loop Touhou-ness, last time I checked only one game (PCB I think) had a translation. :P And I never played PCB with it either because I played right when it came out originally, before there was a patch or even anyone in the English-speaking world really knowing what Touhou was. (I don't know if it was already big in Japan or not at that time. Does anyone know?)

English patch here

http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Shoot_the_ ... lish_patch

VSync patch (input lag patch, very useful in EoSD and PCB)

http://coolier.sytes.net:8080/th_up3/file/th3_8419.zip

Just copy vpatch.exe, vpatch.ini and vpatch_th095.dll to same folder as the game and start Shoot the Bullet by launching vpatch.exe.

If you copy all the files to same folder as the game and try to launch vpatch.exe you get error message. All you need is just those 3 files.

when / if you want to use the english patch together with the vsync patch then you need to rename th095e.exe and th095e.dat to th095.exe and th095.dat. You might want to take some backups as well if something goes wrong.

-------

edit: The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Night, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, Shoot the Bullet, Mountain of Faith, Subterranean Animism and Undefined Fantastic Object all have English translations/patch + VSync patch.

Thanks a bunch!

Edit: What about IAMP and SWR?
Double edit: Never mind, I found it.

Triple edit because it's not important enough for its own post: I looked at the thread for the STB patch, and Touhou fans are too funny. I can sorta understand why some people say they won't play this game because Aya is "too fast" (they should try Judge Spear or Miyamoto sometime), because at least that's based in mechanics, but apparently some people won't play this game because they don't like Aya's character??

I never considered anyone picking a character in a shmup based on who they were rather than how they played. It makes sense now though, why they always add weird unimportant fan favorites to the fighting games and why that girl from MOF is in the most recent game and so on. I remember after POFV and STB, how some were getting angry and saying that Zun said that if it wasn't for the fanbase, those were the types of games he would like to make, and how the fanbase needed to rally to force him back in line. Or something like that.

ZUN doesn't want to cater to the fanbase but does anyway, Cirno really should not be on -soku's jewel case

but every Touhou game has a decent translation save for -soku and the PC-98 games, and those are presumably being worked on as we speak. also half of those translations came out this year, actually

Huh, why did I never check the index for this game? Small sights compared to that one Western player around with a 50M+ score.

Interesting news, but this game isn't my cup of tea. Would have preferred another full one to check up on the scoring.
