Ah yes, Downtown. Why'd he want that? Is it rare in Japan? I know exactly what it is.
Who knows. Completion?
I need to check out Gondomania, and also figure out how to get my LS-30 assembled and working on my supergun.

that you couldn't at least slowly walk backwards on the screen.
Hence the name 'runner'. You know, they took a LOT of shit for the title. I think it was even on some TV special.
It plays like an urban themed Ikari III: The Rescue - which itself is a lameass overhead beat'em up with rotary control.
Sure is -- and rare as shit, too. Never seen a JPN version on Yahoo, and it's not in MAME. There's the possibility they just made the one version though.

So, this is supposed to be out according to IGN. I have no idea how that's possible given it doesn't appear anywhere on the Majesco site that I see, and nobody seems totally clear on the game list. It's as if they were trying to make sure nobody found out about it!

Either that, or it actually doesn't come out for a while.

Indeed, Atomic Runner naturally rewards people for remembering where icons drop and not missing them the first time past. Bitching about that would be just bitching about the way the game is.

Wikipedia had, last time I checked it, a reference to an old article in one of the national newspapers critical of it for making the Chernobyl disaster into a video game. It does seem pretty wild for a Japanese company to make the connection that nuclear radiation -> Soviet Superhero! I actually started writing something about Chelnov in that vein but it became more about Chernobyl. Didn't have any sources on the Chelnov controversy (in fact I didn't even know about it) so it was pretty useless.

I love how they updated the orignial lo-fi arcade hardware release into something as awesome as the MD title. It needed more hammers and sickles though.

This translation is the first I was reading on it. I think Wikipedia-J references it as well.

Data East collection without Midnight Resistance?
without being on ps3.
If there ever was a genre that should multi platform it's emulated collections.

You played it in Mame w/o using a rotary stick, so your opinion is irrelevant.

I wonder why they are using the original "Burnin' Rubber" name for Bump 'n Jump. The version on GameTap is "Burnin' Rubber" too. Even the NES follow up (sequel?), which was called "Buggy Popper" in Japan, was renamed "Bump 'n Jump" for the US. Still a nice inclusion, though.

I recall playing the Bump 'N' Jump arcade game at my local arcade back in the late 1980s. Trying to gain enough speed and jump to clear those wicked empty spans of road was a challenge unto itself. I wasn't very good at it anyways. Glad to hear that this Data East gaming compliation going to be released soon.

It sure would've been nice if all the Data East Laserdisc-based games were included in a future DE gaming compliation. Can't forget those type of games either. I was surprised to see a lone Road Blasters laserdisc cab show up at the California Extreme 2008 show. Interesting nevertheless. ^_~

My Fire-Bug made supergun doesn't have integrated controllers like that Sigma. I'm going with Atari-style joystick ports. I ought to ask him about that now.

Isn't Super Buger Time the sequel to Burger Time? Not Peter's Ice Cream factory, or whatever.

I'm not sure what the official title of the Burger Time sequel is/was. Going off topic and into the shmup realm, I've seen a "Super Galaxian" cab once at my local arcade...it was housed in a generic USA woodie with a big-ass 27" RGB monitor. Definitely a larger-than-life way to play it. ^_~

They are both sequels to Burger Time. Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory came first. There's also a semi-official (licensed by Data East, but not from the original developers) sequel named Diner for the Intellivision.

I'm really excited for this collection! The fact that it will feature the sequel to Burger Time alone garners my interest, as only the Intellivision got a home port of that game. Here's the description from IGN, although I'm sure the game list isn't exhaustive:

http://wii.ign.com/objects/030/030802.html According to the game listing here it will have Heavy Barrel, which rocks!!

Diner != Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory

The games have some similarities (rolling balls into enemies), but they are completely different games. Diner was made from the ground up for Intellivision, from the person who ported the Intellivision Burgertime, using a game engine originally intended for a sequel to the Masters of the Universe game.

The Wii?! Please don't tell me it'll only be released on that.

Chelnov was a favourite of ours in the arcades. A couple of years ago my local arcade had a multigame cab with it. It was pretty much the only game I would play (apart from Gemini Wing and Prehistoric Isle 1).
