Nintendo is currently looking into providing SOME OF their older games with a complete visual makeover when users download them using the Revolution's upcoming online service, according to an interview with Nintendo president Saturo Iwata in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.
"We are doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros, with the new technology," said Iwata. "The game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different; it's possible that with Revolution, we may be able to see the old games with new looks."
The company isn't new to visual remakes. In 1993, Nintendo released Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES, which introduced new graphics for the first three Super Mario Bros. games.
Swapping 2D artwork is easy enough, but Nintendo will also be providing downloadable versions of their 3D-centric Nintendo 64 games. In that case, Nintendo doesn't have any solid plans, but says it's possible for 3D games to "look sharper" when played on Revolution.

High-res emulation filters, like the 2XSai Eagle modes, for instance. That's all this is. Those make the games look like ass, btw. Hopefully you can turn the filters off if you wish.ryosnk wrote:"We are doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros, with the new technology," said Iwata. Again, just a high-res boost. It won't help the worst parts about N64 games at all - the textures and the framerates (to both = YUCK).In that case, Nintendo doesn't have any solid plans, but says it's possible for 3D games to "look sharper" when played on Revolution.
The fact that you can download a bunch of classic games is cool, but it's not a major selling point on the system for me.

Amen Dylan, All Stars Rocks! And I'm still pissed about the fact that import games won't be included!Dylan1CC wrote:Lame, that still won't make me buy them. As far as Mario goes, the All Stars cart is good enough for me.

Does the GBA-SP have an equivalent to All-Stars? I've looked through the Mario titles for it, and haven't found one.

Nintendo released them all individually the bastardsdave4shmups wrote:Does the GBA-SP have an equivalent to All-Stars? I've looked through the Mario titles for it, and haven't found one.

If Nintendo expected me to pay £30 for one title they're wrong.
Thats why I only had like 5 advance games

My Trying Not To
I thought it was a huge ripoff too, considering that I can get a much better SNES verison that has all three on one cart! I fucking hate SNES ports on GBA anyway. Two buttons are missing and the sound is piss poor.SheSaidDutch wrote:Nintendo released them all individually the bastardsdave4shmups wrote:Does the GBA-SP have an equivalent to All-Stars? They can fancy up all the classics for all they want, no fancy emulation or remake beats the original.

When playing Ocarina of Time on the GameCube, I actually thought it looked worse in high-res. Definitely more artificial, and lost some of the "softness" that it had on the N64. I often don't use the PS2's texture smoother on PS1 games for the same reason. The textures and framerates in these games may not be perfect, but upping their appearance in one way but not the others just looks awkward at times.OmegaFlareX wrote:Again, just a high-res boost. OMG! Nintendo is so REVOLUTIONary!
Be attitude for gains:
1) Be praying...
2) Be praying...
3) Be praying...
And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Yeah, what's so REVOLUTIONary about downloading old videogames? It's been done for years already on computers. (And for free, mind you.judesalmon wrote:OMG! Nintendo is so REVOLUTIONary!

Revolution better be the second coming of the Golden Age of videogames if Nintendo wants it to live up to it's name.

People complain companies aren't doing anything to make their old games legally available. Nintendo offers a solution.
People complain that they already own Nintendo's old games, so why should they play them again? Nintendo offers to upgrade the visuals.
People complain that they don't want upgraded visuals. But they also complain that they don't want the same old games. But they also complain that those old games should be made available. See, I don't like All Stars because it breaks some things. Like the three Goomba's in a row in the first underground stage of SMB1; you can't kill them all in one jump if you're full sized in All Stars like you can on the NES version.Dylan1CC wrote:Lame, that still won't make me buy them.
