Most under-rated games ever?
Re: Most under-rated games ever?
PSX's Ridge Racer Type 4, and Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (even the International version).

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Yeah. Everybody hates AC3 International version, though. They removed the whole damn game by removing the anime cutscenes, some missions, branching plot, and voice acting.m3tall1ca wrote:Shinji Hosoe + Tetsukazu Nakanishi = Both games are worth the money for the sound testGespenst wrote:PSX's Ridge Racer Type 4, and Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (even the International version).

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
But MONTAGE! Seriously, I can't believe how awesome that soundtrack is, when all the games after it seem to be...filler. I don't know what Nakanishi or Namco were thinking, but I'd slaughter for more Electrosphere goodness. Reminds me a lot of Milestone soundtracks, particularly Bitches Blue and the Chaos Field OST in some places.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Fire Youngman!I loved AC2 like nothing else back in the day, especially after unlocking the last jet, which struck like the fist of an angry god, but I'd trade every last ounce of gameplay for the soundtrack of AC3.
Some more:
-Rebel Raiders: Operation Nighthawk: Good graphics, cool fighter design (I love the YV-21!

-Top Gun: Combat Zones
-Battle Engine Aquila

Ha, two of my favourite Playstation games right there. I still pull out Type 4 every so often.Gespenst wrote:PSX's Ridge Racer Type 4, and Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (even the International version).
Re: Most under-rated games ever?
I totally forgot that game even existed, but I had a ton of fun with it way back when... Good call.Gespenst wrote:Type 4
EDIT: After having my memory jogged a bit, I decided to research the game, and it looks like it received universally good reviews. I dunno if that qualifies as under rated.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. Got good reviews, but no one seemed to notice. Awesome game though.

So far, every person I've described it to has said that Vagrant Saga doesn't sound very fun.
I didn't even get into how damn tough the combat gets (without breaking it with savestates, that is). Also, turning a Bronze piercing spear into an edge Hagane polearm makes me very unhappy.

Sandlot did a good job here. I like it and for a few reasons, for example, it was the last Enix game I bought before they merged with Square. Best $70 I spent at Toys'R'Us, hahah.handsome_rakshas wrote:Haha, where's the fifty votes for God Hand I expected?![]()

I LOVED going out of my way to destroy that one girls place of employment every map. I like seeing her become poorer and poorer. It mad me happy when she told me she had to resort to eating bread and water soup. I still haven't gotten the ending where you drive her to suicide, I think I missed the bakery one map.Limbrooke wrote:Sandlot did a good job here. Raiden II is very underrated. In terms of popularity, it's SSF2 to DX's Super Turbo.

I have to say Chaotix on the 32X.
It's got kind of uninspired level design, but the gameplay mechanic is neat and fun, the bosses are good, and the graphics are absolutely beautiful.
Of course, all of the half-decent to good 32X games are underrated, but...

+1 to Godhand! I recently came across that game about a month ago and haven't been able to stop playing since. I wish clover studio was still aroundhandsome_rakshas wrote:Haha, where's the fifty votes for God Hand I expected?![]()

I need a new fucking PS2. Oh wait, I'm getting one, that's right. Godhand's a game I've wanted to play for ages upon ages, and I think I'm finally just going to cough up for it when I have a working PS2 again. Or I could just sell most of my PS2 shit, it's not like I play any of it anymore anyway.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Mega Man X8. It reviewed badly almost everywhere and probably nobody bought it because the last two X games bombed, but MMX8 is quite a good game. I think any MM fan should try it. It's quite hard, but the levels are designed well for the most part so it's not the cheap kind of hard like MMX6.
Edit: another shout out for God Hand!!! Only play if you got a pair of balls tho.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Have I already mentioned Castlevania Bloodlines (Mega Drive)?
Doesn´t really get the love it deserves. At least it´s my personal favourite oldschool Castlevania game (well ok I only know oldschool Castlevanias) and I like it much more than Super Castlevania IV. Actually I find SC IV quite lame... The NES games are awesome, but very frustrating. Bloodlines' difficulty is just right.

Einhander? Underrated? Hm...
When I am thinking of underrated games, the ones that come to my mind are Marathon trilogy (PC, Mac) and Tail Concerto (PS1)

I have long wanted to play Amok. Scavenger made the really good "Subterrainia" on Genesis, but Amok got bad reviews so I never gave it a chance. Amok gave me impressions of Turbo Sub (Lynx) and Soul Star (SegaCD).ROBOTRON wrote:AMOK - For the Sega Saturn rocks hard.
I think a couple majorly overlooked or under-apretiated games are: Advance Guardian Heroes and Finny the Fish and the Seven Waters.

I remember a guy who used to hang around the Castlevania Dungeons slagging off Bloodlines to me, back when I first found out about it. I was like "yes this does look ugly." Now I don't think so, however. It's not as painfully "hilarious" as Contra HC tries to be. One of the few games that does fake 3D stuff well, too.

You mean when I say that the NES Castlevania games are too frustrating? Well yeah I completed Battletoads (NES) and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES), but I still find Castlevania 1 and 3 harder. Sounds strange probably, maybe it´s just a question of my personal skill. But I also think in Battletoads many stuff can be done by learning which isn´t that helpful in Castlevania.
EDIT: And yeah, Bloodlines is on of the few Mega Drive games that manage some cool 3D effects. The only other games I can think of are Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Dynamite Headdy.

Anything on the Sega Master System that isn't Phantasy Star…
So much hate and disrespect for such a fine console… Thank God for the Virtual Boy and the 32X to be the butt of all jokes as the SMS seems to be nothing but joke to anyone…
