Wouldn't it be interesting? If you don't recall Binary Land, here's the vid:

I've never got far into it, but always liked the idea (you control both characters at once). Recently all those crazy Ikaruga videos on YouTube and the dual mode in Raiden III reminded me of that game. My concept of a Binary Land-like shooter goes as follows: there are two ships on screen; one is "real" (you control it as God intended and it's destructible), whereas another one is copying the first one's movement via axial symmetry (the axis being horizontal or vertical, depending on the scrolling direction). Your "mirror twin" craft is an indestructible hologram and some kind of portal. One button teleports your ship to where the mirage was and creates a new mirage where the ship was. In other words: you can choose at any moment which craft acts as a real ship and which is fake.
Needless to say, you could ignore the swapping mechanics and play it like any other shooter, but tactical swapping would be essential for high score. I even have the ideas of some optional features: the mirage could also be a weapon, attract aimed shots... Vertical scrolling on horizontally oriented screen would be the best for such a game I think. Analogically, arena equivalent would rely on point reflection rather than axial symmetry, the point being the middle of arena.
Maybe the game I just described already exists out there?

Excellent Bifurcation is the closest you're gonna get.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Heh, Binary Land was pretty elegant, although I suppose the concept was a bit too "leftfield" to make it big.
Thanks! Twisted enough. Even the graphics are fine (except for the backdrops maybe).MathU wrote:Excellent Bifurcation is the closest you're gonna get.
