Oh man, I thought UFO outdid themselves with the Ultimate Shooting Collection boxart, but damn...this shit takes the cake. 100% butt-fucking ugly.

That's probably a good thing, though, as I got all excited over the last Milestone collection (hey, it was a desperate time in my life) and wound up thinking, "Wow, this is shit, where's my PS2?" when I popped it in the Wii. I feel I would make the same mistake all over again in buying this port, except I'll be too ashamed to walk up to a register with this in hand. Thanks, UFO, you saved me thirty dollars.

Amazon's now listing it as releasing on the 29th of next month instead of the 15th...here we go again.

Well, that's tantalizing. I think games may actually fall off the shelves away from this game to keep from it's contamination.

Remember, it's just 4 fun.

Look on the bright side: With that cover, it should be pretty easy for anyone who wants the game to pick it up for $10 or $15 at GS if they're willing to wait a bit. 8)

Raiden Fighters Aces and Castle Shikigami III had lovely covers. I thought we were past such shoddy covers on our shmups. Oh well.

You know, this cover is actually sorta confusing, honestly. Most people may think it's actually an old game, rather than a new-classic style game.

I would have said "Nice artwork on that cabinet there...wouldn't look so bad on a read cab tbh" if it weren't for the fact that it was yoko.

OK 2 questions:

1. Do we have any reason to believe Illvelo (USA Wii release) won't get delayed AGAIN? ;) (from September 29th to something later)

2. Isn't it supposed to be "Illvelo" with TWO "L"s after the "I"?? (the pic of the game's USA cover art has "Ilvelo")

Why didn't UFO just copy the original Japanese cover art? That actually looks decent. Interestingly, Amazon lists this game with the correct spelling - 2 L's in the title.

This is worse than the boxart for many of the USA Turbo-Grafx 16 games. "Play Just 4 Fun"? Gack. Adding that transforms this travesty into the #1 lamest boxart ever. Hopefully the original Illvelo logo will be kept on the title screen of the USA version. Still, I'm sold on this after checking out a few YouTube videos of it- the weirdness makes it almost like a shmup counterpart to Pulirula.

Milestone U.S. ports seem to have a strange curse that ensures their releases will be delayed at least 4 times. We'll be lucky if the actual release date doesn't end up as some time next winter.

I still have no clue what UFO was thinking with this boxart, especially when you look at the artwork they gave to Saint.

If anyone's been keeping up with Amazon's listing, the game has now been pushed back to October 27th (incidentally, so has Raiden IV), but the price has also been lowered to 20 bucks.

So did this get released in North America or not? No online retailer that I've looked at, except for Amazon, even seems to have a listing for it. On Amazon it currently says, "ships in 1-2 months?" And UFO Interactive's website & twitter makes no mention of it...

Who knows, really.

UFO interactive is a terrible publisher. They recently released Domino Rally, and it's not even on their website anymore. In fact, there's no stores that are carrying it online. You have to buy it off of Ebay.

I'd say that if you can find a copy of Illvelo ANYWHERE, pick it up.

I know its old news and has been discussed to death, but i still can't get over that "Category: Retro" shit.

It does appear to be delayed. I have an order in from Amazon (placed a week or so ago, prior to the most recent "release date"). Amazon required my authorization to approve a delay so they wouldn't cancel my order.

My order page currently says:

When will your items arrive?
Not Yet Shipped:
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. You can cancel at any time.

The Friendly Local Game Store here doesn't have it yet. They quoted me Feburary 16 2010, but since they aren't a big chain store I have no idea where they pulled that date from.

I'm not in a big rush to pick this one up. When it comes out, I'll buy it. If it floats around indefinitely, no biggie.

UFO are legendary for not actually listing release dates. It's just "Coming Soon" until it's released. At which point nobody can find it anywhere.

Didn't we have this same problem with the Ultimate Shooting Collection? It was delayed for ages, too. It was UFO Interactive as well.

With that one, at least, there was a release date out there, that just kept being pushed back, so we could at least keep an eye on it...this thing, on the other hand, seems to be doing its best to remain mysterious, for whatever reason. Hopefully the publisher gets around to actually announcing something official about it at some point...

UFO is really giving Graffiti Entertainment a run for their money as one of the most inconsistent publishers.

I waited nearly a year for one of their games about a year ago.

For all we know this game was released a week ago or something

We won't know it until someone publicly says "Hey I got my copy :3"

Hell. Many months back one of the GameStops around here didn't have a release date for Ultimate Shooting Collection...which was on their shelf

Do some people here actually, you know, like Milestone's shmups? Chaos Field resembled an unusually high-budget doujin game, while Radirgy and Karous felt like they were done in Flash.

This one really doesn't look any different.

They're not all that attractive visually, but playing them for score is fun, I think, and at least something different from most shmups - especially considering how inexpensive the localized versions have been, I say they're still worth trying, though as with anything else they're not for everyone.

I really enjoy their games, and frankly I don't get all the flak they get around here. Must be the CAVE fanboys.

Radirgy is awesome, Karous is pretty good as well (I'm not too fond of the leveling-up mechanics, though).

I love Chaos Field, for one. Still one of my top five or so games, purely out of how much fun it is to play, along with the music and backgrounds and atmosphere.
