Shooter: Space Shot and Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein?

Post by Metal Gear Okt »

The FYE is clearing out their old PS1 games, and they're selling them (new) in 3 packs for $15.

The one that really caught my eye was a collection of MMX4 (have it), and two Agetec budget titles: Shooter: Space Shot and Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein.

I vaguely remember hearing good things about Sanvein.

Are they worth it?

Sanvein is pretty fun, it's a fast paced arena shooter......weak graphics but the gameplay makes up for it.

Space shot plays alot like Xadlak if you ever tried that pc game, but it's not very good at all.......weak graphics and gameplay, with mild cutscenes between levels........

Since most game stores sell sanvein for about $1.50 - $3.00 bucks, just buy that one......
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

I find Space Shot to be very enjoyable. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not awesome, but it's good enough. The level design is spot-on, and the game is full of nice score methods.

I wasn't expecting much from Space Shot, but once I took the time to go through a couple of the lessons, I appreciated the level designs around the different scoring mechanisms a lot more. It'll be worth the few dollars you spend on it.

If Space Shot cost any more, I'd say no, but at it's budget price it's worth it. I want to try Sanvein (I've heard a lot about it) but I haven't seen it for sale anywhere. I have no idea what the Japanese name is either, otherwise I might look for it here...

I'll pick it up used someday I guess.

Yeah, I bought my Space Shot and Sanvein at FYE in just such a bundle, along with a Mega Man X title. I haven't really given them much time, even though I've had them for quite a while now. They seemed fun but kind of plain.

I think the Japanese version is Sanvein, however, I'll link you to a Korean PSX title you might find of interest. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-5o-70-940.html I have no idea if this Bomb Boat game is any good, though.

Nope, it didn't.

By coincidence, I played Sanvein (which did get a PAL release) just yesterday. I like it, the game has this appealing atmosphere and the gameplay isn't too bad, but sometimes the graphics get in the way - few times I got hit and I had absolutely no idea by what.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

The full Japanese title is: Soushouki Sanvein (Soushouki = Paired Essence Fighter-Craft). It was a SuperLite 1500 Yen Series release (the cover is mainly white, but features the same image of the ship against a hexagonal map that the US cover features).

And interestingly enough, our local FYE has the same 3 for $15 pack for sale.

That pack is worth the price of admission for MMX4 alone (awesome game), and Space Shot doesn't suck, so it's a good deal. Go for it.

Right, except I already have a copy, and I'll probably wind up picking up the MMX collection later this year.

OMG I found Shooter Space Shot at the bottom of a used PSX pile at GameStop for $2.99. Must be my spolied expectations as I thought it was the worst thing ever. I gave it to my brother to use as an PS2 HDLOADER boot disc. :P
