Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
Thanks for that E.Dupree, but if the story is confusing and dull, I don't see how it's going to get the hooks in me any other way. I've never been a huge fan of turn based RPG's anyway, but if the system was simple enough, and the characters and story engaging, I can sit through them.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it has these qualities.

I gave up simply because I wasn't having fun with it. The Zodiac Spear is merely one point they did wrong. If at some point they mention which chests you shouldn't open then I take it back.E. Not when you have no idea where are the licenses you need. You need to guess where they might be, then buy all licenses in the way (spending valuable AP points in the process) and hope that you come across the ones you want. Still, that's a lot of trouble just to use that new weapon I just found.E. Randy Dupre wrote:The license system works brilliantly and allows you to turn any character into any type of fighter that you want, just so long as you use your brain while developing those characters.
Uhh no. Using stuff right away is the norm.E. Randy Dupre wrote:Monaing that you can't use a specific piece of equipment until you've opened the license for it? Dude, have you even played an RPG before? This is extremely common stuff.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
I've decided I'm not going to try FFXII - this sounds like a ballache from both points of view.

Ballaches are no good. You should play DOJ instead.

You're doing yourself a favor.
Stick with FFIV-FFVI, and everything will be peachy.
I will admit to liking the Tactics series though. Those are pretty fun.

FFT is still my favorite SRPG.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
For all practical purposes, it's mine too, but I've had so many over the course of playing through the GBASRPGs that I have no idea anymore >_>No_not_like_Quake wrote:FFT is still my favorite SRPG.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
Is there any info out there regarding the mechanics of XIII? Combat system, how you learn spells/abilities etc?

Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
^I'd like to know as well. If the combat and leveling up ect. isn't too convoluted, as it has been for my tastes since FF8, I may give the game a play when it's released, despite my dislike of Nomura's character designs (while he can draw, being that is his job, I find his ideas for characters to be not only unappealing, I find them to be the product of someone with a poor sense of badassness. Many manga artists would eat him for breakfast).
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
My off-topic post of the day: I actually loved FF12, and hated just about the rest of the series. It's in the lineage of Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre and FFT more than it is Final Fantasy. Very different staff involved. I indeed loved the long, epic treks on foot, the gorgeous earthy visuals, and the fact that the whiny main character was shoved to the side to make way for people like Balthier. In fact, I think it's brilliant - from what I understand, Basch was supposed to be the MC, but one of the higher-ups said that wouldn't sell - so they slyly insert Vaan without ruining the story. Music was also nice and out of your face.
Anyway, it's not for everyone, and I understand the gripes, but I loved it.
It's worth trying - it's cheap to buy too.

This is actually a recurring fail in many modern Japanese games and Anime. The more they try to appeal to western audiences, the more embarrassing it seems to get.No_not_like_Quake wrote:I find them to be the product of someone with a poor sense of badassness.
Bring back the old guard; Kenshiro, Jubei, Tetsuo, - they'd make short work of all these starry eyed sissies.

Uhh no. I said "extremely common" not "the norm".Ruddra wrote:Uhh no. Using stuff right away is the norm.E. Randy Dupre wrote:Monaing that you can't use a specific piece of equipment until you've opened the license for it? Dude, have you even played an RPG before? This is extremely common stuff.
FFXII is designed to be a single player MMORPG. That's why you've got gambits. That's why you have to travel between areas in real-time rather than using an overworld map. It's also why you can't use equipment until you're able to use it - every single MMORPG I've heard of places a limitation on equipment that only allows you to equip it once you'vee reached a pre-determined level. The license board is the same idea, but made more open.

That sounds like the single worst idea ever.E. Randy Dupre wrote: FFXII is designed to be a single player MMORPG.

But I'm intrigued somehow...

The end bosses in Romancing SaGa 2 freaking level up when you kill their buddies, so there is at least some variety in your path through the game.Jockel wrote:Just for the lulz:

Tho. This is one of those Squaresoft games you can say "it sux" without getting a ten page essay in response.
Unless you say it in Japanese.
They seem to have actually played the game.
PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

That's more like '3 must-play square games, 3 'I put these titles in here to appease the older crowd games' and 4 you should run screaming from'.Jockel wrote:Just for the lulz:

Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
I hope they add more characters with hoodies or ski caps....... those always are super cool. I deffinately like the wannabe hip hop dress elements in these new square games.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Don't forget the addition of countless, pointless zippers in unnecessary locations. Thanks, Nomura.
Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
the zippers i could live with actually... but they are not needed.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII TGS trailer
Tim Rogers has savaged this in this months GamesTM Kongetsu report.
Although I used to dislike TR's 'I was out with a Japanese girl this week' reports, I must admit his articles are better written and more interesting than they were before.
Anyway, I don't intend to play FFXIII, but his comments were interesting.
