after playing Raiden III and Shikigami No shiro by Tateing my Laptop (which intern blocked the cooling fan and the other way blocks the CD Drive..)
I'm craving more PC Shmuppage, Tateing in MAME doesn't seem to have the same effect as my monitors are 16:9 so there are black bars to deal with.
I have most if not all the good doujin shmups But I'm looking for other games IE Raiden and SNS that I can play the same way TATEing my laptop.
For that matter what other 3d shmups are there for PC that I'm unaware of besides Raiden III, SNS 1-3 and Soldner X?
More PC Shmuppage
Re: More PC Shmuppage
SnS1 was 3d? I think Raycrisis had a native port, but might be wrong. Don't know about Raystorm. 93% sure G-Darius did.

Yeah I even had SNS1 in MAME but as is the case with most Taito 3d hardware (OK ALL) in mame there was no music.
SNS1 ran on Taito's Gnet system.
Running those games tated...was a religous experence...one that will probably kill my lap top if I don't get a stand for it.

Re: More PC Shmuppage
PC you said? I've been pretty much getting PC schmukmups only nowadays... Too much pressure and annoyances at work so I turned my comp into my main gaming platform. With Mame, the crapload of doujin games and the Saturn/PSX emus to try my discs (yeah, too lazy to make isos) I have enough to entertain myself during breaks.
Indeed, Ray Crisis, Ray Storm, G-Darius and Ray Force (or Layer Section, I got this one, it's published by Cyberfront*) have PC ports. Gotta love Taito/Cyberfront. Darius Gaiden, Raiden Project (I think), Raiden III, the Shikigami no Shiro series too. The Raiden PC ports are one of the reasons many shouted aloud why the IV wasn't ported yet, and I fear the silly paid online content is preventing them... Or because they know it won't sell.
If you like Einhänder (sp?), Steel Saviour is as good as it gets (it has a similar weapon system and uses an aggressive combo system that forces you to attack the enemy like mad) although but it's a big memoriser like most horis. The graphics are plain gorgeous though. I cannot describe them in few words.
You might wanna risk with Protöthea (avoid the Wii version at all costs) which is a mouse+keyboard (yes) controlled Xevious clone with a strange weapon system. Sometimes there are more ground enemies than flying ones. It's incredibly frustrating as well and it has a lot of the annoying treats: life bar, inertia, etc. You can use a temporary bullet time mode to improve your aim, which is a key mechanic due to the speed and sheer malevolence of the enemy, which fires off screen all the time, comes in, leaves and comes back to get you from any direction.
Jets 'N' Guns might be obvious now so not entering in details. One of the bests OSTs hands down. The level of destruction gets incredible at times.
Absolute Blue was released for free not so long ago. Average hori, nice music and all. Might be worth a try.
Arrow Flash (considered average but due to its Macross references I put it a bit above) was also released for PC and I think Silpheed too.
Sure you checked most of the doujin ones: Cloudphobia, Hellsinker, Diadra Empty, Reflex, Exception (which has multiplayer so maybe you could plug someone else comp and play the campaign co-op), Exception Conflict, Samidare, Kamui, etc.?
*warning: this version is pretty much unplayable for score. The redbook audio is more than welcomed though but the Saturn port is better since you can at least Tate that one.

I'd recommend getting Hellsinker by Ruminant's Whimper, Kamui and RefleX by Siter Skain and PatriotDark. Those are definitely among the best doujin shmups. Hellsinker is my favorite so far, I'll start updating the strategy thread if i happen to start playing it again :p
