Ahh thank you. I was expecting a more obvious title, along the line of Street Fighter Rainbow edition or something.unsane wrote:http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/srch.ph ... xt=gareggat0yrobo wrote:Sorry this is slightly ot, but does anyone know the title for said rom. Google didn't give me much help

No. Rank still increases, but a lot slower than usual (about 8 times slower iirc).Herr Schatten wrote:So by setting extends to "none" I can disable rank?

Man, Aenima? 40% awesome at best. However, some of the absolutely best tracks from Tool are there (H, Hooker, Aenema). No contest about Lateralus (well, where's Parabola in the standouts?). And yeah, 'crap' is codeword for 'mediocre/filler, which means bad compared to the rest'Enhasa wrote:Opiate: 90% crap, 10% awesomedex wrote:And to think I hated it at first... I do have qualms about it (obtuse system, several debilitating flaws), but it's not unlike a Tool album. Tool albums tend to contain 80% crap and 20% stuff so awesome, you don't mind the crap at all.
Undertow: 50% crap, 50% awesome (standout: Prison Sex)
Aenima: 20% crap, 80% awesome (standouts: Aenema, H)
Lateralus: 10% crap, 90% awesome (standouts: The Patient, Lateralus, Schism)
10000 Days: 80% crap, 20% awesome (standout: Vicarious)

Not that hard to do, but I can already imagine the whining (I like a human operator in the mix). Guess I could just make a 'double' system, where data that can be parsed is parsed and data that can't is reported to me so I can update it.Enhasa wrote:Someone said his level of interest correlated directly with scoreboard updates. I think you should make it parse the thread for scores, that way it updates constantly and you don't even have to do anything. People will understand and submit with the correct format if their score being counted depends on it.And of course you can make it pretty robust with handling malformed input anyway. Also if you put the players and teams into the system, it won't even matter if someone misspells team name or even his own name, the parser would get that info from who the poster is. Other than those two items, the score itself is the only other piece of data that is critical.
Re: STGT '09 Raizing Week 5-6, Battle Garegga - Overall thoughts
Like I said, if people's scores depend on it, they will get it right. If they got instant feedback to see if it's there or not, i.e. a button to push to update, it would be near 100%. But maybe it's better to pull every x minutes instead of push. You could also get 100% if you provided a score submission form, but that takes away the flow of posting scores in this board, so that's probably not a good idea. Anyway, given that player name and team name are automatic (from the poster) and score is almost impossible to get wrong, I think everything can be parsed easily.
More random Tool talk: Yeah, Aenema is my favorite, H is close, Lateralus is more solid all around though. Also I was gonna include Parabola (it used to be my favorite but there's relatively less going on so it didn't hold up as well as some of the others) or The Grudge because they are right up there, but you can't start naming like every song a standout, that makes no sense.
Some of Aenima's filler is really awesome btw. Harry Manback still cracks me up every time (bonus points: imagine him -- he's Italian -- talking about FALSIFICARE... oh yeah this is totally about shmups now), and same with Intermission.

What makes Lateralus great is that, on its own, most of the tracks are really awesome songs.
Put it in the CD player and let it go, and every track sets up the next one. When it finally ends, it leaves you wanting more, and becomes even better as an album than a collection of singles. Its part of what makes it my favorite Tool album.

Disagree on many things there, Enhasa, but agree on one: absolutely one of my favorite bands.
As for Garegga, I thought it would've been cool if I could have gotten three hours or more into the game. It's really hard for me to duplicate anything in any game besides something like Under Defeat or DOJ unless I've spent a trillion hours at it, so I wasn't very satisfied with my 3.4M.

That is exactly what I mean: if you choose a song from a Tool album (besides the sublime Lateralus), you're likely to be pressing 'next' to go to the better parts
. Still, one of my favourite bands too.
Anyway, *cough*, shmups or something. I could conceivably also mix the http access with IRC access to the scores (minor recoding of my badass SeriousBot would do the trick [yes, SeriousBot is in perl too!]). Never enough features, huh?

Can't we discuss Tool a bit more? what's up with their latest album?
Btw, the Opiate cover is really lame, it's in yoko mode with these fat lines on the sides... ewww.
