Sega of J Execs NEED TO DIE [Light Gun related]

Post by Bar81 »

So, after playing perhaps the two best light gun shooters of all time, Virtua Cop 1&2 (special mention HoD2) I rightfully was extremely excited to see Sega develop Virtua Cop 3 and considering it was developed on what is essentially Xbox hardware [Chihiro?] in the arcade I assumed it would be released onthe Xbox just as HoD3 had. Wrong.

So, I'm still bitter about the whole VC3 thing and then Sega, those useless POS bastards, have to rub salt in the wound by tentatively announcing HoD4 for the Xbox 360 with no mention of VC3 anywhere in sight.

DIE SOJ, DIE

What has Sega of Japan done right since the end of the Dreamcast? Actually, what has Sega as an entity done right?

Well... OK, they had the nice boost of Xbox exclusives and then published some damn fine games (Otogi, Astro Boy GBA), but other than that...

I blame Sammy. I have no idea if it's actually their fault or not, but I just can't bring myself to blame Sega themselves...

Then again, I should. Shining Tears made me weep allright... it was one of the most boring pieces of crap ever released. And they had the nerve to stick the "Shining" name on it. Then they made Shining Force Neo a Diablo clone. Oh yeah, they also made Sakura Taisen V Ep 0 look like a PS1 game and play about as well as a Jaguar game (I don't even like the ST series all that much, but this was just uncalled for). Then comes the Sega Ages series, which might be a joint venture with D3 (Japan's premiere budget title developer/publisher ... cheap prices, mostly bad games), but 90% of those are just junk too.

I used to buy games just because they had the Sega label on them. Now I avoid games with it. Bleh.

PS: Otogi wasn't released by Sega in Japan, it was done by From themselves (iirc)... we all knew it wasn't actually made by them anyway.

Panzzer Dragoon Orta (yeah, yeah, it's still a good game) and the Super Monkey Ball games let me give them a pass.

All those games are great, but PDO was released in 2002, Super Monkey Ball 1 is from 2001, and SMB 2 is from 2002 as well. I think those can be said to be from Sega's "pre-sucking horribly" phase. 8)

Fzero GX and Outrun 2 were made by Sega :D

Sega rally 2, A crazy taxi game and Afterburner are coming out for XB360 next year.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

THAT would be incredible and well worth the money. In the meanwhile you can thankfully play both via mame/PCB or play the Master System conversion of Shadow Dancer and the PCE version of Shinobi, both relatively accurate translations (but still of course FAR from perfect.)

Outrun 2 is a lot of fun, more so than the original for me. F-Zero GX was good but nothing special.

You never know what they might do next.

PCE Shinobi is lacking the melee attacks, if I've understood correctly.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Admit it people... when the DC died, Sega started doing what everyone wanted them to, but in a weird way. They broke out the sequels for other hardware. At first, it was pretty good. VF4, Shinobi, Panzer Dragoon (the list goes on). Then the merger came and everything went pear-shaped. Now only a handful of their new games coming out are worth trying... I dont' even know the last great one.

I dunno, I think there are some right miserable gits on his board

I love 'em for Out Run 2 alone, F-Zero GX was sheer class, and the forthcoming update of Sega Rally on PSP looks great.

Myself, I'd like a Sega Ages Out Run collection please: Out Run, Turbo Out Run and Out Runners. And maybe throw is the shitty Mega Drive 2019 and the (pretty decent actually) Amiga version of Europa. Or shit, even a Sega racing collection full stop: Power Drift, Super Hang-On, Rad Mobile, Sega Rally, Daytona 1 & 2, Scud Race....

Nice find Ghegs! The J-PSTwo is looking sexier every day!

So do I Marc, lol.

I don't think Sega are what they used to be either, but I'd still rather purchase a Sega game then games by plenty of other companies. At least they aren't glutting the market with cookie-cutter crap like EA. Or developing games like NARC-thank you very much Midway, the home console market needs a game where you power-up using illegal drugs about as much as it needs another crash.

And F-Zero GX is a great game; it's certainly a helluva lot better then anything Sammy's put out. The cars in their latest arcade racer don't look much better then the ones in Virtua Racer. And have they given us a port of Dolphin Blue? Heck no.

I'm not saying Sega's the top game developer these days, but it doesn't mean that they're utter crap, and there are plenty of other gaming companies who are worse.

Oh, and Bar81, I wasn't trying to be insensitive to your against, I understand why you're mad-but look at it this way; in terms of accessories, Sega DID give us a PS2 Saturn controller-that's pretty huge in my book. *shrugs*

Was just an off-the cuff remark about something I'm sure I read in a magazine a while back... sure they're releasing an amalgamation of both games on PSP? Anyone? Or have I confused it with the Ages update due on PS2?

I only know of a GBA Sega Rally.

And yes something about Sega Rally 2 somewhere, can't quite put my finger on it.

Will this even come out? Cancelled?

Yeah, it's still coming out. Not sure when - should be a release date on that site, I'd imagine. Supposed to be a mix of tracks from the previous two games, plus an F-Zero X-style 'track creator' thing. Which'll probably be a bit shit, but miracles do happen.
