Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
AKRATEN, I think your box is cool because it's unique and has a bit of mystery to it.
On another note, DFK is a perfect game to have at home. If you want to play it casually when you just want some quick fun it's got that. If you want to put some time in for a serious chaining/scoring run, no problem. It's also really accessible for shmup newcomers to enjoy, and has great graphics and sounds for that too! I love it.

Hey I'm a Cave fanboy too, but this level of having absolute, impeccable complete kits right down to the packaging, whose purpose serves no other than to safely transport goods, has got to be on the same level of being a weaboo who vastly prefers one item over another identical one if the difference is english vs. japanese characters on it. Only difference here is the Cave and AMI logosven666 wrote:goddamn, where the fuck do these people come from?EPS21 wrote: I can understand if its all over some artwork almost akin to graffiti, but this is just a plain ol' cardboard box.![]()

Just curious, do you prize on an equal level as the box, the anti-static and bubble wrap bag for the pcb, and the little baggy that comes with the 4 PCB feet?

Beating a final boss and whether the kit came in OMG 100% OFFICIAL CONDITION or not have got to be the two most completely unrelated things to compare, ever.emphatic wrote: So in your book, being but a few shots away from beating the final boss equals an all clear as well?
By the end of the day when you plug it in, and fire your cab up, its the same fucking game no matter how you got it, but being a collector myself buying new over used is always preferable when you can afford it to support the publishers, an argument that comes up often with regards to console games.
I just think the level of impeccability goes a little too far when someone gets their panties in a bunch when Cave adds a little personal touch to it, and then regard that kit as imperfect trash (or something outlandish like it not being a "1cc'd kit"

Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
The owner of the box doesn't care. The person caring also (tries?) to sell complete kits for thousands of dollars. Black meets white. End of story.

Oh, calm down dude. We get it, you don't care about the boxes. As a shmupper yourself I would have thought you'd be a little more circumspect about trashing other people's hobbies.EPS21 wrote:By the end of the day when you plug it in, and fire your cab up, its the same fucking game no matter how you got it

Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
Has anyone written up or begun to write up a strategy treatise for it yet?
Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
Even DDP is better than DP. Judging by, I dunno...anything and everything one could possibly observe without actually having played the game, I'd say yes.Guardians Knight wrote:better than the original Donpachi?

Donpachi > DOJ > DDP > DFK
And this probably is a scientific fact or at least my opinion.

I'd say the 'Pachi series has gotten better with each release.

And the second loop is still a tough challenge.
Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
I think they are all great games, anyone agree?
I do like DonPachi lots, but that could be as I have no problems getting very far into the game, even with making big mistakes, I can still get quite far.
I've enjoyed DFK so far, but I just don't understand how to score so well in it yet, with getting the secret bosses.. it seems to be an actual secret for once.

I would like to hear your reasoning.Plasmo wrote:Donpachi > DOJ > DDP > DFK

Honestly, DOJ BL was the only Pachi game that I played really hardcore, and while I really liked it, DOJ has some goddamn irrational points that make it very difficult to consistently chain.
DFK has only a few points like this, but it has been fine-tuned so that you have just a bit more leniency in the chain. This way, full chains all the way up to stage 5 are quite possible for even a player of medium ability like myself, while the daunting challenge of stage 5 still remains as something to constantly be improved.
It does have a very steep barrier to entry in the Ura boss route, which is basically necessary to score 100 bil before stage 5. Stage 1 ura boss route is a bit of a challenge at first, then mastering the stage 2 lasers takes a bit of time, and for me chaining through the stage 3 mid took a long time. Every stage's mid-boss is the only thing standing in your way from turning the hyper chains of the first half of the level into huge points on the latter half, but they all have their little tricks which you'll have to really get used to. If you don't, the latter half of the level is basically useless and you've dropped your score significantly.
DOJ has the virtue of feeding you points every time you hit a bee, which means even if you break the chain later, you at least got some points. Since the points acquired are exponential with the size of the chain, you want to make it to the end with a full chain as much as possible, but most players will be satisfied if they can cash in up to where the chain gets really difficult.
I think it's the combination of the scoring system, challenge of the ura boss route, stage 5 and the rarity of the board which has caused DFK to be somewhat overlooked so far in the west. I really look forward to seeing people in the west push this as hard as they pushed Dodonpachi, even if that means waiting for a port to come out.

DOJ BL is the culmination of the series, if not Cave in general (and I'm not a hardcore fan of the original). DFK had the potential to beat it but they fucked up w/ the auto-bomb and the lolis. DOJ's soundtrack is better as well. All opinions, but hey, at least I can state why.

Re: Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu [Cave 2008]
Autobomb was a huge fuck-up on CAVE's part. It requires people to line up for 30-40 min while someone plays. Even if someone screws up on stage 1, it takes a good 5 minutes to get rid of all of their bombs. The worst is my local arcade, who have done a great thing by making the game 2 plays for 100 yen, but that means sometimes you have to wait while some guy does two loops two times. Seriously whack. Thankfully most players are humble and will get up after beating the loop if people are waiting. Still, auto-bomb was a disastrous decision for this game.
That's why when I find the DFK machine empty I'll sit down and occupy it for 3 hour or so.

this man speaks the truth, I enjoy DFK quite alot but it is annoying as hell that rounds last +30mins no matter how well/poorly you do, i almost 2-alled it and have only played it casually in total maybe 30-40 credits or so... thats pretty whack, i never made the loop of neither DDP nor DOJ in spite of having played both of those alot more.GaijinPunch wrote:DOJ BL is the culmination of the series, if not Cave in general (and I'm not a hardcore fan of the original).
