Demolition Racer - like Destruction Derby, but better.
N.GEN Racing - basically Wipeout with planes.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
How could I forgot this: Air Force Delta Strike / Deadly Skies III: Not as awesome as Ace Combat , filled with a lot of retarded speeches (especially in the STAND-BY missions), pretty lame flight physics, and has one of the worst VA ever, but this game has plenty of unbelieveable moments and something that never tried in other air combat games (space missions, fighting twisters, flying inside gun barrel, etc), and has the largest amount of playable planes (so far?)
Oh yeah, Vic Viper and Axelay inside, too. (as well as some Konami's cameo)

One of my personal Top 10 games on Xbox as well. I hope the PC version gets on Steam sometime, I always wondered how well it was ported to PC but never saw a copy on shelves.dcharlie wrote:oh YES, completely forgot about this one. Completely agreed.Enclave (X-Box)
If we're lucky, then the in-development Wii port might even turn out respectable and get a publisher.
I recently ordered Demon's Souls on PS3, partly in the hope that it might be like a next-gen version of Enclave (although I've seen practically nothing about DS, so I could be totally wrong).

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
you should be happy with Demon's Souls - i need to get back to playing it and whilst it's not completely unalike Enclave, it feels like a Kings Field game (which isn't a surprise given Takeshi Kajii said it was KFs "spiritual successor")I recently ordered Demon's Souls on PS3, partly in the hope that it might be like a next-gen version of Enclave (although I've seen practically nothing about DS, so I could be totally wrong).
there are some awesome frustrated gamer vids out there - watching a stream of a japanese guy play the game real time when he just got it and die over 100 times in the first segment was pretty funny. It's not easy - especially at first.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Being a fan of over-the-top difficulty games, I've wanted to play this since release. However, like Uncharted 2, I won't get the chance until my PS3 gets indcharlie wrote:you should be happy with Demon's Souls - i need to get back to playing it and whilst it's not completely unalike Enclave, it feels like a Kings Field game (which isn't a surprise given Takeshi Kajii said it was KFs "spiritual successor")I recently ordered Demon's Souls on PS3, partly in the hope that it might be like a next-gen version of Enclave (although I've seen practically nothing about DS, so I could be totally wrong).

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
I love how shmups-forums just loves under-rated anything. 4 pages in a few weeks is rad.
Okay I might get laughed at a little bit, and I don't think this is the *most* under-rated game, but I really love Ira Ira Bo / Irritating Stick on the Sony Playstation. Both versions have radical announcers, are completely bizzare and are totally fun. My trackball-less-ass has never had the pleasure of enjoying the Neo Geo version (which I'm sure I'd love). I doubt it has the awesome soundclips like the Playstation CD though and that's what I feel gives the game its charm.
Also, mentions to Yoshi on NES and Yoshi's cookie on SNES. Esp Yoshi on NES. That's some of my favorite puzzling right there, don't hear them talked about much at all. Still to this day have to describe them as "something like Dr. Mario."

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
I know this, but it doesn't change the fact that it RUINED THE GAME FOR ME, to the point that I don't want to play through it a second time. I was all like, "WHAT?? WHERE'S THE REST OF THE GAME??" The weird philosophic debates don't help, nor do the pixelated graphics.Solarus wrote:The "story-telling" nature of the second disk occurred because of a budget cut Square imposed on the development team so that they could release the game earlier.
I recently played through Xenosaga I twice and found it infinitely better, nyaaah.

Uhhhh, Exed Exes is underrated but I don't know if it's "most underrated ever".
Darius and Darius II are underrated but that is purely my opinion.

Damn, I've got "Captain Neo" / Stage 1 BGM from Darius stuck in my head now... such an odd, depressing little song.

what's depressing about that song, that song rocks. sounds like a call to action to me.Bill wrote:Damn, I've got "Captain Neo" / Stage 1 BGM from Darius stuck in my head now... such an odd, depressing little song.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Always strikes me as melancholy, even moreso with OGR's characteristic offbeatness. Really minor key for a shooter's first stage BGM. Not a bad song by any means (hell, the fact it sticks in my head to begin with says a lot).
Thunder Cross' "First Attack" is more my idea of the typical get up and go shooter first stage music.

Kickle Cubicle, an entertaining puzzle type game from Irem on arcade and NES, got that one on the brain as I don't own the NES version yet.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Ever? Dunno. I find Monster World III (aka Wonderboy in Monster World for Genesis, Game Gear, Dynastic Hero on PCE) underrated, all anyone ever talks about are II and IV.
Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Has anyone mentioned Psi-Ops: Mindgate Conspiracy yet? I thought that game was great and, much like Enclave, was very bitter when the sequel was canned.

Dear god, Zuntata's live arrangements are great. I could browse through their 90/97/98 concert vids all afternoon!

Two answers.
1) Last Blade 1 (Neo-Geo)
2) Shenmue 1 and 2 (Dreamcast)

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
I totally agree, at least with Rocket Knight Adventures. (I haven´t played Sparkster.) Excellent game, one of the very best the Mega Drive has to offer... and that´s saying much.Ed Oscuro wrote:Nobody mentioned Rocket Knight Adventures / Sparkster SNES yet, the shame of the world

Another game I´d like to mention is MDK 2 (Dreamcast, PS2). It got far too less credit. Just the tons of great ideas, the level design and the crude humour are enough for me to call it a classic and absolutely outstanding game. And that´s by far not all that´s awesome about MDK 2.

Re: Most under-rated games ever?
Power Blade. A great NES platformer that I rarely ever see get mentioned. Maybe somewhat easy by today's standards, but it had to be a refreshing change from harder platformer games available for the system at the time. Awesome soundtrack, too.
And holy shit, USA and Europe lucked out big time with this game. We almost got this instead: http://www.destructoid.com/off-brand-ga ... 0628.phtml
However, it is worth playing Power Blazer at least once to really see how much the game was improved upon when it was changed for release outside of Japan. The difference in quality is shocking. Also, I'd rather play with a generic Arnold Schwarzenegger clone named Nova than a generic Mega Man clone bastard called Steve Treiber (a name I find hilarious, for some reason).

It's already been said, but Advance Guardian Heroes. God I love that game.
Did say Gunbird 2, too, didn't I.
The Shikigami no Shiro games are pretty good, but don't seem to get any attention.
Dammit, you know, I had a specific game in mind and I just can't seem to remember it.
