Is Cotton Boomerang over engineered?
Is Cotton Boomerang over engineered?
Just started playing this on Saturn after playing the second one first. Whats with all the firing modes in the front and rear and cannon?. Is this really needed later on? This game fills up a six button controller to the max. I might go back to the second one because i like simpler controls.

Re: Is Cotton Boomerang over engineered?
I have this same question, but instead in concerns a different game: XOP Black. I'm provided tons of weapon options (just pick two weapons, plus ship speed, difficulty, and go!) but I have no idea what would be the best general combination just to get through. t sounds like you just have tons of weapons though! Yiiikes!
That reminds me of what happened when I first played ThunderForce V... Uhm, in other words, I'm kind of in the same boat: I'm not sused to having so many weapons at my disposal at once! (Even if the weapons are all triggered by powerup additions in TF V...)
How many weapons do you normally end up using in-game, by the way?

Re: Is Cotton Boomerang over engineered?
If memory serves, most of the "special" shots were already in Cotton 2, though you couldn't map them to individual buttons (at least not at the start, I think you could unlock that option...) - there were a few new ones thrown in for Boomerang, but the "main" addition was the bullet-eating charge shot, which doesn't require any extra buttons anyways. In any event, the "default" weapons' firepower is much greater in Boomerang, so you don't need to be as reliant on your "special" shots as in the previous game. Just map the ones you use most often, forget the rest, and you ought to be okay.

I thought they actually removed some commands from Boomerang? Like there was the bomb-drop and fairy attach/detach in Cotton 2 that aren't in Boomerang. Probably remembering wrong though.
But yeah, most of those command specials are pretty useful, but it's easier to just learn the controller input to do them than remember 8 different buttons.

I think you're actually right about those two, but IIRC there were also a handful of additional special shots added.Gwyrgyn Blood wrote:I thought they actually removed some commands from Boomerang?
