Yeah, I was hoping the delay in the release date was to make it an actual physical artbook, but noooo.... ;_; It was not.

I'm actually considering printing out that PDF at the highest quality it can get, and binding it into an actual artbook. That would have been nice~

If only they had standees or posters for the game: then I'd be begging at my local Gamestop for one (I don't think I'll be getting my hands on a Japanese arcade poster anytime soon).

Man, those little ships that constantly fly down next to you are driving me crazy. God, why did they have to be in there so much. It's really annoying.

Those little ships flying down next to you have always been in Raiden. At least they always appear from the top, giving you a chance to destroy them before they make it.

The first Raiden had some flying enemies that appeared from the back of the screen which you could collide with the moment they appeared (stage 6 I think). I remember having some controller-throwing RAGE about them.

Oh, i'm sorta unfamiliar with Raiden. I used to have Raiden Project, when I was younger, but that was in the mid-nineties.

I didn't know that was a signature attack.

It really drives me nuts though! :x

Oh you are right, so it was there all along. I do feel better now. I guess I am losing my sense of weight...

I might give the game a try tonight.

im sure it's been mentioned before (if not WHY?), but one of the most annoying features of this game is a lack of a "quick restart" option.

RFA has me spoiled rotten with the back button bringing you right to the ship select screen. in this game, you have to pause>exit>select a game mode (depending on what mode you're in)> select a ship> wait for the too long intro before you can start shooting again.

i have little patience for that crap. i guess the answer is to suck less, but this should be a standard feature in all games. shmups especially (and racing games).

You can enlarge it a bit in the options. I thought it was too small too.
I know a guy who was so fed up with that he went out and bought a cheap Sanyo 19 inch HDTV, so he could play Raiden Fighters and IV in proper tate mode. Said the small 19 inch rotated in an upright picture frame is at least 3 inches wider then his 25 inch CRT was set at the default hori setting enlarged (on the sides) to the max.

On the fence with this one.

Raiden III was okay with me but not sure if I want to drop 50$ CAD. Raiden Fighters Aces was okay cuz it was like only 20$.

Anyone want to give me some really good reasons why I should give this one a go?

Fun as Hell, and unlike Raiden III you can loop it. Buy it off amazon they have it way cheaper than anywhere else.

Alternatively, wait a long time 'till the prices drop to rock bottom? I've seen Raiden III going for less than 7 bucks these days. :/

Sad, really... And then again, those are usually used copies, as opposed to new.

(Although I've grabbed NEW shmups at stupidly low prices, too. Sharp eyes, I have.)

I don't think the wait is worth it though, your leaving it to chance the longer you wait. Games like these may not be available later down the road.

Not all games become hard to find but some do and some don't. I'd rather get it now and out of the way.

I just picked mine up today, I really hate the free soundtrack that came with it lol but it's a nice added bonus.

Guess what spadgy's going to say? Best Double Play mode I've ever played. Some great enemy and bullet patterns clearly designed for Double Play thrills.

I'm not sure what attitude your talking about but Raiden III wasn't as good as I expected. 50$ for a game isn't cheap so your going to want to make sure you don't blow your money on a game that isn't worth the sticker price.

I've never played Raiden IV so I'd like to get some good feedback before I make a purchase. I can't rely on mainstream reviews on game sites like IGN because well you just can't trust those guys with games like this.

I like to support releases like this but if it turns out to be a game I don't like I won't purchase it.

Watching the game played on Youtube was what convinced me. Enemy patterns and double play looked really fun :)

I have a rather odd technical question, was wondering if anyone else had similar problems...

I have the jp version of this game, and fairly often the powerups will get stalled on a certain color for several seconds instead of changing when they should. The ring around the powerup usually makes one full, unbroken rotation and the the type changes, but fairly often, usually more than once a level, the little thingamabob that circles the powerup just stops for a few seconds and I have to wait longer for it to change. This doesn't always happen at the same spot and can happen anywhere, but a few places, such as ones right before bosses, seem to be more likely to have this issue. It can also happen with the goodies the fairy drops as well. At first I thought this was a minor annoyance, but it messes with my multipliers occasionally and will sometimes get me killed because I anticipate it changing when it just stalls, so it's really frustrating me and I don't feel like playing until I figure out a solution.

Has anyone had this problem with their game? It seems almost like a loading issue, and since I don't have a hard drive yet to install the game to I thought that might be the issue. I dunno if I feel like forking over the cash for an hd yet, but if anyone has had a similar problem and that worked let me know so I can plan a course of action.

The powerups pause in their cycle when you stop shooting.

Now that the US version has been about a while, I have a question I asked loads of times over when the JPN version came out to no avail...

Basically, I want to know what it means when the ship shimmers gold. I only noticed in 360 mode so far, and very rarely, and I DON'T mean the flash of blue that indicates when you've stopped shooting long enough to fire off a 'charged' missile silo shot.

Any ideas?

alright- I didn't see if this has been answered before.

I have a Japanese Xbox, Japanese Raiden 4. (Also Fighters Aces)

I have a US Xbox, US Aces and now Raiden 4. I got the US of both to support the cause, on Raiden 4's case it was to have Achievements I could actually read.

That being said- I plug the thing in- but it only seems to add to the japanese Raiden 4 acehievement list (all the ach's are still in japanese). Lol- did I goof up somewhere?
