Ps2 Cave port question

Post by lawnspic »

I always thought that Galuda and DOJ were coded by different developers and Mushi and Ibara by Cave themselves. I just realized they were all coded by Cave. What was the reason for the filtering in the later games that everyone here hates. Did they not see the difference in picture quality?

The Galuda and DOJ ports were coded by Arika. Though it is weird that Cave took out the slowdown from Ibara and added the filters.

That's what i thought initially, then i saw that Gamefaqs has Cave listed as developer for all four ports.

Maybe this is a good place to ask..

I do not understand what the intended purpose of the fugly filters was for the Cave PS2 ports mentioned. Can someone give me the nutshell version?

One team in Arika did DOJ, another team within Arika did ESPGaluda. Arika published them both. Cave programmed the other two but it's not clear exactly who. Since they are "perfect" ports, they roll the arcade credits in arcade mode. That might be what Gamefags is going off of.

Same reason there's more interlaced games than 240p. Most people have non-CRT TVs, and the TVS don't really handle 240p signals so well. So, the answer is to let the PS2 interlace it and send it a more friendly 480i signal. Play Gunstar Heroes treasure box on an LCD and flip between 240p & 480i.
