Yes, the brain is amazingly weak. Then again, it's a two part boss fight on stage 2.

It's nice to see such discussion after a year of inactivity.

Edit: The US score board looks like a staircase with a trip step. See you next fall.

Well, technically it was more like seven months of inactivity, but whatever. :P

Got this PCB the other day (thanks dpful!), and played a few rounds without the bomb buttons hooked up (only top 3 fire buttons worked), and autofire dip on (assume this is fine as most mame players use mame's autofire anyway with full defaults). I was on my last ship in stage 3 and got the illusive "2up" icon which got me through to stage 4 with this score.

Dave! You gotta get those bomb buttons working, dude. Daioh is evil enough without handicaps. Nice no-bomb score, though! Good to see this board getting more action!

You know, I played this game last year and didn't really like it...now I'm enjoying it a lot. I'll definitely play this some more in the future.

seriously though good job, you deserve it. I doubt I'll ever touch this game again. I just wanted to get in the 7-digit area.

This game is so random. Oh so random. In one run, I got the flashy P icon at the first stage; then on another run, I get a 1UP at the end of the 1st boss.

Not big on this game but I always like to contribute to obscure game HS threads. The Checkpoint system wasn't as bad as I remember it's nice that you can die during bosses and you don't haft to go too far back. It's not completely retarded like Eight Forces or Darwinia.

I'm playing the Japan version to see if it's really easier than US version, but I'm not sure yet. I'm dying too much on the earlier stages to notice a difference. It's still very hard though.

The super rare 2UP :D I played this game for months now and I've only seen it twice.

Aww...saved by having two rows of bombs early in stage 2, no deaths until stage 3. Died with all three bombs on my last life, had been dodging stuff well but that last bomb just wouldn't trigger, rargh

Okay, this time I no-missed all the way to the stage 4 boss, and now I can say that the japanese version is as unfair as the US version. In both of them the rank seems to max at the 3rd boss.

EDIT: Ugh, forget what I just said. The US version is much, much harder. The difference is obvious when you play both versions one after the other. Stage 3 in particular is a complete different beast in the US version.

EDIT 2: Aaaand I'm taking the first place for US board as well.

It's kind of nice to see this game getting some attention. It was really fun when the Strawberry Team practiced with this game as a warmup for STGT '08. I really should give it a go again sometime.

Ruldra iz on list twice.

I noticed, at one point, that the second and third items in the game have been reversed, a few times, when I've played. Usually the order is Speed (on the left), Powerup, Eye (5000 points icon), but very rarely it's been S, 5K, P.

It'd be interesting to find out if the game sets up legendary item drops at the beginning of the game based on a cycle counter, or if it's based on some other obscure metric (like straight play time, which is how I believe rank is thought to be affected). It does seem to me that simulating keeping the machine up for days of play by continuing from savestates after you've input your initials lets you get some epic items that you wouldn't get starting from a "clean state" every time you started up MAME.

I wonder if there's some way to manipulate what items you get, kind of like in Bubble Bobble. I'd love to get those Purple Powerups more often :o

I'd love to get the purple powerups that coincide with an items burst. Getting two rows of bombs early in Stage 2 = VERY YES

EDIT: Also, I've noticed that something on the first page of this thread is bringing up an access prompt from Cal Poly Pomona Internet every time I check the first page, which is pretty damned annoying. What's that all about?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it. You get the item burst if you pick the purple P at max power.

Yea I'm getting that as well. I thought I had a trojan or something on my PC, glad to see it's probably not the case. Maybe it's related to one of the pics posted in the first page?

Yeah, I kinda doubt it's Necronopticuses' image posted on his web sight since it seems to be collej hosting or some such. Too lazy to do whois to find out who the provider is there; seems doubtful any of the others are causing it (due to pretty uniform Imageshack hosting).

It's because there are images that were originally on Necronopticous' college server, which he has since graduated from, if I understand right.

He's on AIM often, I'll let him know as soon as he shows up, but simply having a moderator delete the images from the post would do it as well.

EDIT: Never mind, it's got nothing to do with Necronopticous directly. It's iostiogic's post on the first page-- his post, and his signature-- both are still on the college server. Delete iostiogic's link in his post and his signature, problem solved.

Hey Ruldra. Awesome scores, dude. Congrats.

I sent a private message to the staff about the image problem a while back, asking them to do a find and replace in the database to get rid of that Cal Poly prompt issue, but nothing ever came out of it. I have manually removed the ones I am capable of removing on threads that are still active, but there are some that I can't do anything about, like the one in iostiogic's signature.

Just started playing this game. Played for 2 hours, but I could never beat my score from my 3rd credit.

The item randomness is crazy; once I finished stage 1 with 4 lives and just under 20 bombs (ironically I did pretty poorly on that run). Also, is it just me, or is the 1up a lot rarer than the 2up?

Daioh is *much* easier if you avoid excess weapon upgrades and speedups.

Stage 7 is the last one in the loop.

So if you avoid weapon upgrades and speed ups, the game becomes manageable? I'll have to try that.
