Re: New G.Rev shooter
Now that I started thinking about this...
Could this game have a Thunder Force/Ether Vapor-like quick weapon switch system? In Ether Vapor you could even twist the angle of the options with the spread gun and choose from alternate firing modes and charging shots for each weapon system.
Or maybe it will be like Virtual-ON, using some sort of power bar/colour scheme that tells you when you can use certain stuff? Seems you can only have 3 different kinds of weapons at any given time.
Maybe it'll have that multidirectional movement of Cybattler too...
The Dogyunn memories are still fresh from the other thread so this fits like a glove now. I'm wondering if G.Rev lurks this place now and then. The mechs came from the space just in time. They better don't screw it. The explosions of the first screen already shout Psyvariar 2.

I LIKE! Agreed on previous Cybattler comments, agreed on previous HUD comments. First screen looks just, dare I say it, BADASS.

That's real cool adversity1. Seems that the player mech ship can fire eight-ways? It also has a blade that can swing around like Radiant Silvergun. I'll be keeping a watch on this shooter.

Re: New G.Rev shooter
Interesting... the sub-shot (spread) appears to fire in the opposite direction of the craft's motion (like Free-Range). I wonder if that's a permanent setting or is optional (like UD's Normal vs Reverse firing).adversity1 wrote:Dropped in on my way out. Might take a few min to load up.

Mecha, lasers, beam swords, Looks awesome! It is not "Under Defeat in space", that comment is too good to be true.

Looked pretty ordinary in the stills, but the video raised my hopes.
Region-free console release, please! I don't live in Japan, and arcades are dead in my town. My money's still good though.
UD seemed to cop a bit of flack when it got released, but I still love it all these years later.

Looking good. G.rev always make very unique games, so I'll definitely check this out when it hits the 360 eventually.

Looks like there are lots of weapons to choose from, as for character design if I understand right it's more of old school Gundam type, pilot is Kai Shiden-like.

Re: New G.Rev shooter
Read the G.Rev 2ch thread...some of the posts revealed more about weapons.
Enemies drop item carriers when they are destroyed, these contain weapon types. 2 weapons can be used simultaneously on player ship, depending on weapon type. Feels like Einhander all of a sudden.

- Normal: Basic 1-way machinegun. Fires rapidly when button is held down. Default weapon along with sword.
Vulcan: 5-way machinegun. Good for using against waves of small enemies.
Missile: Homing capability.
Rocket: Firing speed is slow, but damage radius is wide.
Reflect: Fires bullets 45 degrees on left and right of ship. Bullets reflect once on obstacles and screen edge.
Direction: 3-way spread bullets in an arbitrary direction around the ship. However bullets cannot be directed by player.
Laser: Fires a constant straight laser when button is held down.
Sword: Does a single swing when button is pressed once. After a swing of the sword, the bullet-firing weapon will shoot (for example: Left - Sword, Right - Vulcan. Vulcan will fire once sword has completed its swing). High damage. When Shot button is repeatedly tapped, sword will be able to perform multiple swings.
2-Sword: When two swords are used for left and right weapon, ship can perform a three-step slash when Shot button is hit repeatedly left and right or vice-versa (for example, single slash on the left, single slash on the right, 2 slashes from both making a circular spinning slash).

Oh yes...found another video of Seisou Kouki Strania, this one totals at 9:45 minutes. Shows a lot of the weapons as well as the three-step slash from double swords. There's also a boss fight in there. It also shows how useful the Reflect weapon is when in enclosed areas. I just realized that the game sometimes switches to a third-person view shooting. Pretty ironic to see the "No Camera" sign displayed above the machine. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEetK7OGYug

Going on that second vid it looks like a pastiche of alot of shmups released over the last 15 years, Gigawing, Radiant Silvergun, Raiden 3/4 quick shot, Chaos Field wipers, Psyvariar 2.

And running on a sexy red colored Vewlix cab with some serious speaker setup. I llke the cool interactive blue LED lights that light up in tune with the game in the Youtube vid. ^_~
Back in the early 1980s, Atari Games used to pick random people off the street just to try out their latest prototype arcade game offerings and pay them to listen to their comments and suggestions to better improve them before general release to arcades worldwide.

It looks promising. I've been waiting for someone to integrate melee attacks in a better way and the sword looks like it's not just a throwaway attack or a multiplier builder.
Feedback will set you free.

Looks interesting. I think this is the first shmup I've noticed to be taking advantage of the new widescreen cabs in a good way.

I didn't watch the entire video, but I didn't see too many bad guys or bullets. (lots of the players bullets). I hope they can spice it up a bit. I've been liking the dreamcast remix of Border Down lately.

No joke. I'm totally with you on the Radiant Silvergun. Not just the sword mechanic, but somehow the "feel" was very RS. Maybe the level direction?Kron wrote:Going on that second vid it looks like a pastiche of alot of shmups released over the last 15 years, Gigawing, Radiant Silvergun, Raiden 3/4 quick shot, Chaos Field wipers, Psyvariar 2.

Re: New G.Rev shooter
Does anyone know if all the 3D angle changes are purely for "interlude"(like in Ikaruga) , or is there gameplay the takes place during them? I'd always hoped that a game would use controllable scaling so you could zoom the view way out and see enemies coming at you from far away, but also so you could zoom-in and take on the bigger enemies head to head. Soukyugurentai is about the closest game I know of that does this to a very minimal degree. Anyway, this is the first G-Rev game I'm really pumped about since Under Defeat (haven't tried Senko no rondo or Manoru kun yet).
