The "College Student" was my favorite.

I actually have class with some of those types.

One girl in astronomy was arguing that we never landed on the moon.
A guy in environmental science was pissed that he was being taught about climate change.
And then the girl in Humanities who's exposure to literature was equivelant to that of a 4th grader.
...all home schooled.

By the way, they're working on fixing the fact that the Bible, like everything else, is liberally-biased.

The first sentence says the problem is bias in translation, not the bible itself.

The real problem is that Andy Schlafly sees "liberal bias" everywhere. The proposed changes aren't exactly superficial, either. One of the example changes basically amounts to: manuscripts without this verse have been found, liberals like it, therefore let's get rid of it.

I'm not saying the guy isn't crazy, I'm just saying there's a difference between saying x is liberal and translations of x are liberal.

If you want to get technical that's what's happening, but some of the stuff being proposed is a good deal more than just semantic adjustments (which in and of themselves are pretty ridiculous for the most part) - the Bible isn't an economics document, so where the hell are they going to find anything resembling "free-market parables"? Of course, they also question a bunch of the stuff that only appears in one or two of the Gospels (which is a lot) if it's too "touchy-feely" for their tastes...the translation is only a part of what they're looking to ret-con (no pun intended) here...though again, even if it was all semantics it'd still be phenomenally stupid.

Wow...just imagining how the current translation of the bible isn't conservative enough for conservatives...

Well, Jesus does use economic language and situations in some of his parables, but they're either implicitly or explicitly similes/metaphors for the effort and worth of saving the soul. I can imagine this crowd spinning it to say that, for example, finding the lost coin is as important as saving someone's soul.

I look forward to seeing their hilariously convoluted and/or hypocritical justifications for mangling or throwing out most of the Sermon on the Mount (the meek shall inherit the Earth; if a man sues you to take your shirt, give him your cloak as well; if a man forces you to walk a mile with him, walk two miles; turn the other cheek; a man cannot serve both money and God; etc.), while keeping most of the Gospel of John, which seems to be the fundies' favorite.

I wouldn't put it past them, but I'm honestly more interested in seeing how they spin Jesus throwing the money changers out of the temple, or his repeated admonitions to his followers to pay their taxes even if they disagreed with those collecting them. Not to mention, of course, how he encouraged freely giving to the (lazy, unmotivated, entitlement-driven, Socialist!) poor.

Guys since we're somehow talking about the bible instead of Cthulhu, I guess I'll share my favorite story from the bible with you all.

This story is awesome and you should read it to all your friends in Church.

I think it's only one of only one or two places Belial gets mentioned in the thing, right?

Oh, for fuck's fucking sake, I just saw this (from the "College Student" text):
This book on the top is I believe the most important book written of why America is so great and how it has influenced the world. It's called "The Five Thousand Year Leap" by Cleon Skousen.

All of the cool shit got cut out of the Bible. The Book of Enoch has a lot of the fun stuff in it.

I'll check it out sometime.

Rereading Judges just then, it makes me realize this bible does have a lesson applicable to today: only a retarded psychopath would try to conquer a society based on tribalism.

Anyway.

As may be obvious, I'm a fan of Pokethulhu. My one regret is its not a very robust system.

What other cool Cthulhu mashups exist out there?

Did somebody say Judges 19? I wuz just reading that here.

Actually the Brick Testament has lots of fun stories. Not to mention Judges in particular. In all fairness, most people are misinterpreting Judges 19 in at least one way, however.

You've been told lies all of your lives.
Dutch news. Stuff like this doesn't reach your shores that fast now does it?

Translation is a bit dodgy, but you can still understand it.
