Unusual 1CCs - what's yours?

Post by Cthulhu »

I started playing around with doujin shmups again tonite, and I got caught up in playing Cho Ren Sha 68k... I got really far before dying, and I decided I could -probably- 1CC it if I practiced a little... and, well, it's jackass-hour AM now, but I've 1CCed it! Woo hoo! :D

This is definitely my most unusual 1CC, as I don't think all that many people have played this game, and of those who have, I don't know how many people practice it enough to 1CC it. (Edit: I checked the hi score board and apparently several other people have cleared both loops. Ahh well, I'm happy anyways. 8)) It's a really well balanced game (a little surprising for a freeware / doujin shmup), so while it's tough, it's not -too- tough. I didn't beat the 2nd loop though - I'm not quite that good.

So, what's your most "unusual" 1CC? Why do you think it's unusual?

Oh yeah, pic:

*does the happy dance*

I've managed to complete at least 2 out of the 3 Shanghai Alice games (I might've done it on the third as well, but I'd hafta check) on default settings, and AFAIK not too many people own the full versions of those...my only other "unusual" 1CC might be Harmful Park, which almost anyone can 1CC, but few people are willing to search out and buy, heh heh.

Well I've 1cc'ed Air Rade (and Air Rade Summer) on the "standard" setting. I've also 1cc'ed SonSon as well just this weekend. :)

My most unusual 1CC isn't even a shmup, but i think it counts :) It's Blue Shadow for the NES... unusual no?

Mine isn't a shmup, either, but I 1CC'd Contra Hard Corps. Is that an unusal one or not?

BulletMagnet: I own 3 Shanghai Alice games, but I've only 1CCed PCB... yeah, I don't think many people have 'em.

Damocles: I'm proud to say that I've played virtually everything on your 1CC list. :D I can't believe you could play God Panic through both loops... that game drives me up the wall after like 5 minutes.

Danny: Yay, Air Raid is awesome!

Platypus: Yeah, that's pretty unusual I'd say.

Buha: I don't know about "unusual" since it's a well known game, but 1CCing the US version of that means you're so hard corps (har har  ) that it's not even funny. You got mad skills boy. :D

That's interesting, as I find PCB to be the toughest of the three...I KNOW I've cleared EoSD and IN at least once on "Normal," but PCB I'm honestly not sure...I've done it on "Easy," but in any case I think Blossom is the toughest of those three.

Well, I beat hard mode on Recca, which I guess is unusual because most people don't play Famicom ROMs much, and of those who do nobody even knows there's a second loop. Not that the game goes out of its way to let you know, either.

I haven't 1CC'd much of anything besides NES-era games. Unless you cound clearing 2-0 in Cho Ren Sha.

Is Cho Ren Sha that obscure? I thought it was one of the better known doujin games. Obviously, any doujin game is gonna be fairly obscure, but I thought CRS had pretty good name recognition. And I agree, it is an amazingly balanced game. Oh, how I long for an OS X port. I was seriously considering jumping ship and getting a PC, largely for CRS.

Blossom was simply the one that grabbed my interest the most. I got really far in EOSD, but I botched up near the end and just haven't gone back. IN has been on my to-do list for a long time, but it's buried in RPGs. ;)

Yeah, it's well known for a doujin game, but I was going with the "any doujin game is obscure" theory. The Shanghai Alice games seem to be more well known, but that's just a general impression I get from looking around online, so I could be mistaken. I think the most well known doujin game in a while is Cave Story, simply because it got a quick English T/L and was listed on Slashdot and other geek news sites.

Cho ren sha 68K is one game I come back to from time to time, the music and sense of speed are something cool.

I wonder if anyone's tried porting it to Dreamcast or something...

My unusual 1CC is Coryoon (very easy game, but adorable!!). I actually did it on MagicEngine, but after buying a copy off GaijinPunch, I haven't gotten around to trying for a 1CC on the actual hardware :\

I've always thought that Cho Ren Sha is a great game. I guess if clearing 2-0 on it counts as a 1CC, then it's my only shmup 1CC so far

and to Cthulhu: Contra HC is WAAAY easier if you're the robot. If I can do it, anybody can!

I did Delta on C64 way back when... Tried it again not long ago actually, and found the game so slow and unplayable that I could barely believe I'd done it myself. I remember my mate doing Uridium as well... don't think there were many that every cleared that legitimately.

Harmful Park I guess. I got the "DC version" of it and just 1CC'd it when I got it. Never played it again... never intend to.

I almost 1CC'd Planet Joker... which would be a damn odd 1CC to have.

Maybe. I one-lifed this sucker (2 different paths, 1cc'ed the other ones, NOT the much easier japanese version) though ;)

I haven't beaten a lot of games on one credit (atleast not many shooters), I have far too many games to play and far too little time.

I question your sanity when you desire a game that's noteworthy only for it's absurdity and mediocrity.

It does have some funny levels I suppose, but still...

Hmmm... I don't think I have such an unusual 1CC, let's see.

How about Toshinden on very hard? (Have done that with every character to get their hidden move combinations, I still can't believe why I even tried that nonsense...)

Or 1CC Tetris Attack on hard?

Shmups...
hmm maybe "Solar Striker" for GB.

Would any of those count as weird?

Solar Stiker is pretty unusual, since I don't think many people played it. Cool little game though.

If you did all that Toshinden playing recently, I question your taste in fighting games, but I too admittedly played it a lot when it first came out. At the time it was INCREDIBLE - 3D graphics at home oh my god this is so cool wow I can't believe it... yeah, that sort of feeling. The fact that the game was crud didn't come through until we stopped being wowed. :D

@Cthulu:
That Toshinden stuff is long ago... ^^

It was my first and only PSX game for awhile, so that's how I ended up like this. And I have mostly played against the CPU really seldom against human oponnents.

These days I only play KoF, Garou, Soul Calibur, Tekken, SF3 and fighting games like that. Even though I have tried lots of the other no "progamer" games, but for most of them the fun really don't last so long. ;)

Yeah, I think Solar Striker is really fun, well for GB shmup...
The music is cool and the level design is ok, but I hate the stage 4 boss.

Does anyone here know the game "Volley Fire" for GB?
This game is fun too, it's way to easy and simple. But I like the idea of the game.

@Buha:
Tetris Attack is an awesome game, won't you agree?
Best puzzle game I have played, there is also the hidden very hard mode. But I never 1CC it, the last bosses were really to unhuman for me.

I used to play Tetris Attack like I had something wrong with me!

I remember hearing about the very hard mode, but I'd just play against the computer with the 2P switch on, and I'd put it on the highest difficulty, which was usually too hard for me to hang with.

On endless mode one time, it got to level 99 and i stayed on level 99 for like 5 minutes, so I just ended up turning it off. My eyes were burning too much :(

It's probably still the best puzzle game around, I've just played it too much.

OOO OOO OOO
i forgot about a REALLY unusual one I did awhile back.

Do you guys remember that NES game "Pac-mania?" it was also on the arcade, and it was like pac-man but had an isometric view and you can jump over ghosts. Well I got through the first loop...then i got through the second, and then it said that I beat it and I was a "Supreme Pac-Maniac!" I was so pissed off that it made me stop playing! I felt like I could go on forever.

I just thought it was weird. Can't remember my score or anything, it was too long ago.

The Last Eichhof (Alpha Helix, 1993). What can be more unusual* than a beer'em up?
