Disagree with you there. The game is alright, as long as you pretend Unlimited mode doesn't exist.Enhasa wrote: 4) Every Extend Extra Extreme: Boggles the mind that this update/sequel could be so terrible.
After Descent 2, Parallax Software was divided into two teams : Outrage Entertainment and Volition. Descent 3 was developed by Outrage. The only thing that really disappointed me about Descent 3 was the soundtrack. Should have been more like 2's.Enhasa wrote:10) Descent 3: Not a bad game at all, but not what I wanted, but this really shouldn't have been surprising in retrospect. Pretty sure most oldschool FF fans would agree that FF7 was the beginning of the end. FF8 wasn't that big of a disappointment, since after playing FF7 I knew what to expect.Enhasa wrote:You can't get two people to agree on where FF jumped the shark (if ever). It felt rushed and unnecessary. The way the screen scrolled made many of the levels tedious and frustrating. Keiji Inafune publicly insulted it. Dumb boss names.bucklemyshoe wrote:Explain please!Raizen1984 wrote: 3. Mega Man X6
Even in timed modes, it's just a bottom-tier rhythm game. All you do is every time you spawn, explode on the next downbeat, repeat until timeup. If I wanted a rhythm game, I would play a better game. And the arena shooter mode is a bottom-tier arena shooter. Also I hear Sirlin likes this game.Cuilan wrote:Disagree with you there. 3 is good, I guess my problem is it doesn't feel like Descent. 3 is too sterile and boring. Part of that is the graphics engine but most of that is the design. 1-2 are raw and claustrophobic and have confusing, dizzying stage layouts. You're always destroying a reactor and then trying to race to the exit in time. 3 has more traditional stage layouts, outside environments, escort missions, goofy multiplayer modes, and in-game cinematics. This dev article pretty much sums it up: "what went right" was the technical aspects of graphics, AI, etc, "what went wrong" was "lack of direction or vision" and "no standardized level design tools."Cuilan wrote:The only thing that really disappointed me about Descent 3 was the soundtrack. I'd go with 7 too but that's beating a dead horse. The three games I resent the most are Half-Life (although it's a decent game), Mario 64 (although it's only mediocre), and FF7 (which yeah, is pretty awful). Most people love FF7 though and those other games too, and wouldn't call them the beginning of the end. I'm not telling them what to think.Cuilan wrote:Pretty sure most oldschool FF would agree that FF7 was the beginning of the end. P.S. FFT should have been the real FF7.
X8 is worth checking out IMO. X7 is pure unmitigated fecal matter though, definitely the worst of the X series.Raizen1984 wrote:I like the music, but that's the extent. Yeah Xenosaga 2 was a bit dissapointing, but I think they initially intended to make the series a whole lot longer than they did and had to do a bunch of crunch work when they realized they wouldn't be able to get 6 games out of itdrunkninja24 wrote: X8 is worth checking out IMO. Anyway, one of my biggest sequel disappointments was Xenosaga II. Everything felt so stale and toned down from the first game (lack of cool spell/special attack effects was a big one for me), the new art style was a strange and unnecessary shift, and the in-game music just didn't stand up to the amazing work from the first game. Thankfully the third game redeemed the series for me![]()
As for my most disappointing "sequel": Mobile Light Force 2
well here you are, and you pretty much played into Enhasa's pointCuilan wrote:Pretty sure most oldschool FF fans would agree that FF7 was the beginning of the end.
lolP.S. FFT should have been the real FF7.
I still think the original is the best one, but I don't mind E4's rhythm-based gameplay too much. R4 mode is ok as an extra, I'd place it somewhere in between Geometry Wars 1 and 2 as far as arena shooters go. I view all the other modes as just decent-at-best extras as well, but as a whole I felt the game was good.Enhasa wrote:Even in timed modes, it's just a bottom-tier rhythm game. I agree that 3 didn't feel like the previous two, but being less claustrophobic and confusing/dizzying was a good thing in my eyes. Perhaps it was the lack of vision/direction that made the game feel more "balanced" in that regard.Enhasa wrote:3 is good, I guess my problem is it doesn't feel like Descent. 3 is too sterile and boring. That's pretty much how I felt about FF7 and FF8.kozo wrote:I'm one of the, oh, three people in the world that think FF8 is better than 7. I truly think it's one of the best in the series, but more for snotty artistic reasons than anything. I love the non-SD, realistic art and graphics which are very refined for the time; the unified style and look of the world as a whole (instead of "ooh, ninja town. ooh, hi-tech town. ooh, medieval town," it has a consistent culture); and I ashamedly admit that I think the plot being based around two people falling in love is fun, different and better than most. My wife liked it too, so that helps. She commented that most of the outfits and hairstyles in the game resemble actual clothing that actual people could wear (especially Rhinoa) and, being into sewing and fashion, that caught her eye (Persona 4 did the same thing for her.) It's art design is rooted in reality and I appreciate that.
On the other hand, FF7 started out incredibly - Midgar is the coolest thing ever, and the plot was very tightly focused - but for me, it fell apart once you stepped on green grass. Just lost all focus at that point. But what an epic first 5-10 hours...
Yeah, and? I'm not one to waste a good opportunity to bash FF7.lgb wrote:well here you are, and you pretty much played into Enhasa's point
It's kinda hard not to be disappointed by something that uses the PSP controls instead of the PC ones. I used to play DJMAX online against others, until the Korean servers died. It's just not the same on the PSP.gs68 wrote:also, also
DJMAX Portable Black Square. Low framerate on some songs (a breaker in a rhythm game), AUTO FUCKING CORRECT (which you cannot turn off), and bullshit unlock system. One-upped only by DJMAX Trilogy.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
My complaint is not with the PSP controls (DJMAX to go, come on!); rather it's the shitty mechanics that Pentavision decided to implement in BS that made it a disappointment compared to, say, DJMAX Portable 2.Elixir wrote:It's kinda hard not to be disappointed by something that uses the PSP controls instead of the PC ones. also I think I know why Thunder Force VI "failed", I find it interesting, and I'd like to see things done differently. anyone who's played Thunder Force VI (not me lol!) should know exactly what I'm talking about, it's somewhat obvious
