Trying to remember the name of a mame shmup!
I have been getting back into mame lately and i remember a while ago in this forum reading about a shooter which had been made playable in mame, maybe about a year ago.
if i remember the game was released in 2003 and it was a vert shooter and i think it has music basically ripoffs of some metal tracks, yeah thats all i remember.if anyone can help then that would be great thanks.
i actually thought it was wyvern wings but it isnt that one.

afaik there arent any shmups in MAME from that year because of the dumping teams "ethical code" ?fumanchu wrote: if i remember the game was released in 2003 and it was a vert shooter and i think it has music basically ripoffs of some metal tracks, yeah thats all i remember.
also just about every shmup has shitty metal riffs.. if thats the only thing you remember about it it cant be worth the trouble of tracking down

ed: dodonpachi 2 has shitty metal riffs if i remember correctly, maybe that?
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

No it has shitty techno beats that make your ears bleed.sven666 wrote: ed: dodonpachi 2 has shitty metal riffs if i remember correctly, maybe that?
Besides, you can't play it in MAME. Well technically you can, but there are no bullets.
But then again, who would even want to play it with bullets? The game is horrendous!
Perhaps its Psyvariar? GNET emulation just kicked off.

Not a chance it's Psyvariar, the music there is beautiful electronica

Wyvern Wings?
Re: Trying to remember the name of a mame shmup!
Well, I thought there's still no BGM in the MAME emulation?Jockel wrote: Perhaps its Psyvariar? GNET emulation just kicked off.
Fire Hawk?
or G-Stream G2020?
Or XII-Stag?
Re: Trying to remember the name of a mame shmup!
Could it be wyvern wings? There was talk here about it a few weeks ago, and it fits your description except that there is no sound in mame. The board has lots Iron Maiden and some others playing in the background, I think.
....Plus, that last thread prompted me to buy it and the game rules! Its like a more mundane version of strikers 1945 III with LONG intense levels and cool bombs- one for offence that you try and use as often as you can and one for defence that you try to save.
edit* I just read the end of the original post saying that it's not wyvern wings
I guess it deosn't fit your description exactly.

If it's recently playable in MAME, 21st century vert, metal soundtrack, try Takumi's Night Raid.
I don't know if it has music in MAME yet though, but it seems to fit.

I don't think Night Raid works in MAME. I haven't tried, but it's labeled 'Not Working' as of version .134
Even the working GNET games have incomplete audio emulation as well, so none of them could be it.

Re: Trying to remember the name of a mame shmup!
You might be assuming a couple things with the first post, don't want to limit yourself since there aren't many recently emulated shmups in MAME with music after all. The OP never actually says he played this game in MAME; in fact, it sounds like he hasn't. So this doesn't screen out anything that doesn't work correctly in MAME. He just heard the news that it was recently added.
My hunch is still Night Raid since it's not Wyvern Wings. That has a very in-your-face metal soundtrack.

Well, he does say 'made playable'. I assume that means it works.
Also, Night Raid came out in 2001, I believe. OP's game came out in 2003.

Re: Trying to remember the name of a mame shmup!
He probably got the year wrong. The only 2003 vertical shooters in MAME are Space Invaders Anniversary, Shikigami No Shiro II, and Psyvariar 2. The Naomi games aren't exactly playable, and he said it looked like Wyvern Wings, which rules out Space Invaders.
I was thinking of some of the same games Gespenst listed, especially G-Stream, though I wouldn't call its soundtrack metal.

Yeah...I know there's no metal soundtrack there, considering there's very few amount of 2002 & above shumps in MAME :sigh:Mortificator wrote: I was thinking of some of the same games Gespenst listed, especially G-Stream, though I wouldn't call its soundtrack metal.
