Haunted attractions

Post by Gozer »

October is almost here and the haunted attractions will open soon. When I say “haunted attractions” I'm referring to places like jasons woods and eastern state penitentiary. Haunted hayrides, houses, barns, etc. I don't know about anyone else but October would not be the same if I did not check at least one of these out. It's just become a tradition with me. I've always wanted to get a job at one of these and scare people. I just like setting up scares with my friends and such. Getting paid to do that would be great. Hell, if I had the land to do it I'd set up one and go pro myself.

Here in PA it seems that these types of attractions are popular and abundant. I'm curious to know if these types of attractions are as popular in other various states and countries?

What is your experiences and opinions on these types of attractions?

Can anyone in the Philly area recommend one?

I haven't been to any in recent years, but I attended many haunted houses as a child here in St. Louis, MO. Anymore they're rather big and almost corporate. Back in the heydays it was local Jaycees clubs and independent operators running them. Probably the most famous one in St. Louis in the late 80's/early 90's was Thayre Ashton's Mansion. We're talking like 10 school buses shuttling people to the site, an hour wait to get in, at least an hour inside the house, and above all the best scenes and stunts every year.

I'm a huge fan of them. In Newfoundland every year, Easter Seals puts together a huge Haunted house near the harbor front (where historically, a metric shit ton of ghost stories have been formulated from the many 18th and 19th century murders which occurred there). It's the 2nd largest in Canada, and has permanent residence in a ridiculously large abandoned warehouse that they took over. Every year about 200 volunteers take part, and it gets larger every year. Last October, it took about an hour to go through the full thing... Needless to say, it's the part of Halloween I look forward to every year.

I must be out of the loop, i didn't really know such things existed, or had gotten so big. If there's one nearby i'll have to try one someday.

We have a bunch of these in CT and there's even a haunted hayride in my town every Halloween that's pretty cool. Halloween is my favorite day of the year so this stuff is right up my alley  .
