Logitech racing wheels for ps2/ps3

Post by D »

Hi guys,

A long shot, but as you might know, I like to play ps2 racing games on my 60GB ps3
I do not own a ps2
Anyway, what about compatability issues with racing wheels?
How compatible are all logitech racing wheels and ps2 games with each other?
Most of my ps2 racing games are compatible with the Japanese GT force wheel.
Will those games be playable on the ps3 with the Driving Force GT wheel? (a ps2/ps3 wheel)
Any thoughts or comments. I'll take a "I think so". Thanks

Hey there D,

The answer to your question, yes all the Logitech PS2 Driving Force force-feedback steering wheels are compatible on the PS3 with your PS2 racing games that say "Compatible with Logitech Driving Force steering wheels" on the back of the DVD case. You can even use it with the PS3 racing games like Ridge Racer 7, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Dirt, Dirt 2, etc. ^_~

A typical PS2 Driving Force steering wheel setup comprises of the main steering wheel unit with built-in force-feedback mechanism, seperate gas & brake pedal base, special mounting clamps (to mount to a table or other sturdy but stable flat surface like a computer desk), another attachment that allows you to place the wheel on your lap and play it that way and lastly, an A/C adapter that powers everything. Uses USB interface for I/O commands. You can even use it on a PC if you d/l the proper Logitech PC drivers -- so there's no need to buy a dedicated second steering wheel for your PC rig. The best of both worlds when it comes to PS2/PS3 racing games + PC compatibility with just one Logitech Force steering wheel setup. ^_~

Glad to help you out, D. ^_~

If you did happen to have a PS2 console with a copy of USA region Capcom's Auto Modellista racing game + Logitech Driving Force steering setup, it's possible to play with both the steering wheel plugged into the USB port and a Dual Shock 2 controller at the same time during a single player racing session. I had to chuckle upon watching the steering wheel move by itself if I use the analog stick on the Dual Shock 2 gamepad. Is another one of those cool PS2 hardware tricks to discover/try out for yourself.

Also, the PS2 Driving Force steering wheel package deal has "Formula 1" stylized shifter paddles located on both sides of the wheel itself (perfect for those PS2 and PS3 F1 racing games for that slick added realism and coolness factor). The latest Logitech PS3 steering wheels have a stick-based shifter to the right of the wheel + a full 270 degree turing radius (just like how it is on a real car). Sometimes if you wait awhile, it is possible to buy the PS3 Logitech GT Force Pro on sale for a mere $99.99 USD instead of it's usual regular MSRP price of $149.99 at the USA-based Best Buy retail locations. ^_~

The PS3 game of Gran Turismo HD does have built-in support for the older PS2 Logitech Driving Force wheels also.

Some dudes are getting me a Driving Force GT wheel for my birthday or so I asked
I'll be playing:
-Battle Gear 2
-F355 (I know the DC version is better, but this has some other features, the dc version was lacking and the dc does not do VGA + widescreen  )
-Battle Gear 3
-Outrun2SP
-Outrun Sega Ages (that wacky remake)
-Some Initial D ps3 and/or ps2
Some other ps2/ps3 racing games I still have to get into.
I am also looking for a playseat (racing gaming chair), but they can be quite expensive and Since I totaled my office chair I use at home I might rig up something with that busted chair and some leftover wood, or maybe not, I dunno

Yeah, a dedicated racing seat setup to go along with a PS2 or PS3 Logitech steering wheel is cool. Gets the player one step closer to how it is in the arcades with them deluxe sit-down racing cabinets. ^_~

The force feedback that Immersion Technologies corporated into the wheels themselves is impressive. When I hooked it up to my PC rig and d/l'ed the proper PC drivers for it-- tried out some of the various feedback vibration modes -- very convincing indeed. ^_~
