Bay Area Shmupmeet Pics.

Post by IlMrm »

The shmupmeet was a great success. A fun time was had by all, except for a little mishap on my part(more detail in Off-Topic) after the meet. Here are some pics from the meet.

[img][/img]

Left to right: My friend Danny, Bernard and Dave. Destruction on multiple screens!

Dave kicking ass.

Edit: Ooops it was DDP, not Ketsui. Too much shooters. :D Ketsui did own me though.

Bernard and 8.5 kicking ass.

Bernard putting his bomb plan to work.

Again, thanks Dave for hosting. :D Can't wait for the next meet.

Yes, yes it was great. Dave's collection of cabs and boards is truly insane. Not pictured is his 36 inch (right?) VGA monitor that he has in the frontroom hooked up for his console stuff. All he really needs is a bomb shelter and he can shmup the apocalypse away.

Just to put these pictures in perspective:
The blue cab on the end is a Namco cab running a Dreamcast--Shikigami no Shiro 2, Ikaruga and Trizeal were in rotation.

The one in the middle that Bern's on is running Ketsui and next to that is a new Astro City cab with both Esprade and Dodonpachi (just hit both start buttons to switch games on the fly).

Next to that (you can see it in pics 3&5) is an NBA Showtime cab working off a PS2. Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou dominated.

Lining the other side of the room are (among others) a dedicated Robotron cab and a sit-down Spy Hunter.

It was nice to talk to some actual gamers. Now that I've been game-testing sports games for the last three weeks, I've begun to lose faith that I'll ever meet people that know what odd words like "hit-box" and "chaining" mean.

Definitely have to do it again sometime.

Dave has one. I think he'll post it once he finds a hosting service for the pictures.

I grew up in that part of California. It's beautiful and there's lots to do, but it's gotten very crowded. I don't enjoy going back so much.

GREAT picks, by the way.

I live in the Bay Area...too bad parental restrictions and safety concerns prevent me from attending a shmupmeet. And that not a single person from my school plays shmups.

And lastly the group shot. Starting from the left we have Shariar07's brother, IlMrm's friend Daniel, then me, 8 1/2, IlMrm, Shariar07, and BER.
Kage 8 (and his friend) and Gozur had already left when we realized we needed a group shot.

Damn Dave, that's really impressive. That VGA TV is badass, not to mention your massive arcade setup. Too bad there aren't more Daves across the world so the rest of us could have a cool place to meet up at, hang out and shmup it up

Nobody's complimented the Blade Runner poster yet, so I'll do that now. COOL. (I have two just like that.)

Do you watch the shmupmeet forum? It was announced/planned last month.

Sure thing. Looks like I won't be available to host again until around mid-August the soonest.

I really envy you Dave, you live in my area and you have 3 awesome candy cabinets. I'm more of a 2D fighting game fan, but I've always loved good shmups. That Nacmo excellena is off the chain.
