Ravid wrote:I popped in a few credits today, confirming my suspicion that DFK is awesome. Managed to scrape together 5 billion, but I'm still not really sure about scoring (in power mode). Apparently cancelling bullets in a stage only increases your hit counter in normal mode, right? Also, the hit meter apparently works rather differently than in previous incarnations, but I'm not sure exactly how. It all seems rather complicated, compared to DOJ at least.

Also, the difficulty spike in the middle of stage 5 with the rotating laser things is ridiculous.
As you can probably tell from the tables I've not seriously attempted playing this for score but it should increase it in both modes, as far as I can tell the attraction of Normal mode is your thinner stream of fire will not take out your bullet source. There is an awesome video on nico I can upload to youtube if you like, guy does every trick in it, milks bosses (I didn't even know you could) and is generally awesome - stops at stage 3 though.

The hit meter works much in the same way, except it falls slower during hyper and is restocked when cancelling bullets. The biggest change from DOJ is if your hyper is not full you will not lose your hit counter when you drop your combo - it will just turn purple and count down like Mushi. However your hit count is also a multiplier (I think the highest multiplier is at 10k hit) and so is having full hyper. Your main objective scoring wise is to boost your counter by abusing hypers and various tricks at the start of the stage, then once you get up to this amount (hopefully around the mid-boss) use no hypers and chain everything perfectly.

The rotating laser part is why I don't play Power Mode.

I trust you got the extra bosses? That Stage 4 secret boss music brings tears to my eyes.

Thing is, I'm certain I've dropped a chain while cancelling bullets from a mid boss or some larger enemy, so I'm not really sure that cancelling bullets does maintain the hit meter, at least in boost mode. And I've done the thing where you go into hyper mode and sit at the side of the screen cancelling streams of bullets, and in boost mode it doesn't seem to have much effect. On bosses it appears that cancelling bullets does increase your hit counter, even in boost mode, but I tried to avoid hypering bosses anyway.

As for the hidden bosses, I knew that the first one had something to do with the silos and tanks, but I never actually activated it. Isn't there some bees condition for activating later midbosses?

@Chi: yeah, I'll be around on the weekend. Should be able to pull together a 4 bil score on DSMBL if I don't try any fancy stuff :)

I'm willing to be proved wrong, but I'm pretty sure any time I dropped a chain cancelling in boost mode a pattern ended or there just wasn't enough bullets to beat my hit meter drop. I have a suspicion if your hit count isn't above a number certain bosses will force a break in your chain. But I have not tested this to anything conclusive.

I don't think the bee condition exists. I certainly have unlocked multiple bosses on Strong without collecting the bees (I did it the first one by mistake on my third go!), maybe the rules are different on the harder modes.

A big thanks to Ch-Ryu and Taylor.

I'll be down tonight (passing through at 7pm, returning for a session later in the night).
I'll try and get down on friday evening too.

Taylor - I assume the Tatsujin Oh board is safely in the bottom of the DFK cab now :?:

Yey I might have time to get to the point I actually get any good at Deathsmiles, and what is with that annoying coinslot.

Trying to learn DFKs controls by trail and error may not have been good for me changewise (haven't played any version before, only just started to play shooters again ater a few years break).
Hope it's been played more now, entering your name on scoreboard when you failed awfuly doesn't feel right.

AS for interesting things to see at Casino, we should get to see the next thrilling installment of 'Dragon' :!:

Ah man, looking forward to that - they guy's a legend :D

Daifukkatsu is daiffuking easy on Strong mode - I got to the stage 5 boss after borrowing the board for a couple of weeks, after about 15 credits or so... and I suck at shooters. I prefer power mode, though (I hate autobombing with a passion).

Enjoy this weekend fellas - wish I could have joined you :/

Nice to meet you gentlemen.

I think my eyes must work in Saturation Mode because I can't tell anything from anything on Dodonpachi, I just see uniform "BRIGHT!" prettymuch.

Likely I'll bump into people again at some point, I do drop by Casino on random evenings. Usually if there's some function I'm attending in Central London it's not uncommon for me to pay a flying visit!

Nice to meet you too,

I don't think the dodgy monitor on DDP helps but I do agree there is so much going on it's very confusing! I found the same problem with Mushi Mushi Pork though. Maybe its a trend of newer games by cave but bearing in mind that the hit box of your ship is so small i think it is very silly that the overall visual footprint of your ship + options + shot/laser is so huge! It's almost two thirds of the screen if not more.

I think I prefer older cave titles

The brightness does make the bullets hard to see in some sections, but it's as good as we can get it.

I got the ALL on DFK about 8 times in the weekend, but never got a good overall score (3.6 billion). I would get a high chain, and then drop it rather quickly... yay for trying to score on Stong type!
Did alright on Death Smiles, almost got 2 billion, and on a bad run.. got the overall top score for Casper, but I'm sure it won't last :D

Had a really nice time, shame it went so quick, and that I couldn't stay for long. See you guys soon!

Got a clear on DFK with Power style, but failed to improve my score - felt like I was getting steadily worse at the game, though my score hovered around 5 billion. I'll probably only be able to get in one more playing session this week before I have to head back to uni :(

A mystery attendee eh? A lurker here prehaps? Shame anyone remains a mystery there, as I'm sure we're a freindly bunch. The nicest part of Casino is the people.

And Emerald. Welcome! Are you a newcomer to Casino, or just a newcomer to the forum? Shame I missed a chance to meet some new faces.

Also, my insanely busy work patch that turned from one month to three to four really should be over now, so hopefully I'm back to once a week. I'll be there this Thursday I promise!
