Oh, I thought it was about calling them Raiden games. Since the Raiden Fighters series is drastically different.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Went down to my local Gamestop today to see if any copies of the 360 game title of Raiden IV was available for purchase. Was scanning the 360 gaming section shelving and found a lone R-IV display game case. Proceeded up to the front counter and asked if they had any new sealed copies of R-IV in stock. Was told that they didn't have any in the glass box under "lock & key". So I told the Gamestop sales gal that I'll just take the lone "display" opened copy of it then. She looked pretty cute with her diminutive size and all. ^_~

So don't procrastinate too much longer as some Gamestop stores have just got in a single copy of R-Iv at their disposal. I lucked out today. After all, it's on a first come, first served basis. Snooze too long & you'll eventually lose on the missed golden opportunity to score a new copy. ^_~

I've actually seen quite a few copies around here. My local Future Shop had 5 or 6 copies on the shelves (which is a lot for a shmup) the other day when I went in looking for Pinball Hall of Fame.

I think they stock based on pre-orders most of the time. I pre-ordered R-IV at my local Gamestop and when I went to pick it up they had eight or so copies. They still have a bunch. The location is Avon CT for any in the area who might still be looking.

It's interesting to learn that some Gamestop locations got only just get one copy and others, many copies of Raiden IV. ^_~

I can recall back in the early 1990s, when all those American video game speciality stores like Software Etc., Babbages, Electronic Boutique, and Funcoland were seperately owned franchises. How they got their alloted game shipments, it was a bit different for each respective company back in the day. Of course, it was delivered by FedEx and UPS as usual. ^_~

Don't bother with the theme, it's crap. Pics cover all the ships and the logo.

With all you guys in the US playing now, it must be time to pimp the Raiden IV high-score thread, right?

Get over there and post your scores!

And play some Double Play you wimpy toe-rags!

are the leaderboards world-wide? I put in my US copy and am getting a lot of Japanese players (all the top spots), is this because I loaded my save data from playing the Japanese version?

Snagged the last copy from my local Gamestop. Had to take the shelf copy, but since no one had touched it yet it was still in minty shape. So far it's surprisingly good. I never got into III very much, and I bought this one mostly out of support for the genre, but I'm already getting hooked. Difficulty seems a step up from the default of the Raiden Fighters games, which is welcome.

One complaint: DLC. I downloaded the fairy since I love to play as her in the Fighters games, but she's mostly useless. The game is so tuned for the slower default ship that her extra speed actually seems to cost me a life here and there more than being a help. Her weapons are silly and seem underpowered. One of the reasons I like to play as her in RF2 and Jet is that I don't have to worry about picking up the wrong powerup at the wrong time since she only had one normal spread shot to power up. Here, she's shooting bubbles and flowers and it just sucks. I went back to using the default ship after a half dozen attempts with her and instantly did much better.

I thought I would chime in, since I just got this game a few days ago.

It's OK.

It fixes the problems with Raiden III(faster ship, better looking stages, etc.). But it doesn't really wow you or anything. It's not a big leap. It just fixes some problems, and improves in some ways. Don't be expecting something like Gradius IV to Gradius V. The presentation could have been more impressive also.
A little too old school for my tastes, but decent fun. Good music too.

I'm probably gonna give it a 6.5.

Keep in mind that i'm not a Raiden fan, nor much of a Raiden Fighter Aces fan. So, if you love Raiden, just toss this review aside.

I play it from time to time, while i'm not playing Death Smiles MBL. :P

Exactly why I love it so. It feels like an old-school shooter visiting the future, rather than a contemporary evolution like most of the more recent examples. Something a bit distinct and different.

I've really been enjoying this game. It's much better than Raiden III. Reminds me more of Raiden II and DX.

I think it looks really good too. Love stage 3. Love the particle effects sparking off when you're shooting the bosses.

Mostly have been playing arcade mode on world ranking. I can get to the end of stage 4 so hopefully can get the arcade 1cc soon :)

so, i've picked up a copy of this one... and theres one thing i definitively HATE of it... and its the fact that the gameing area (on a regular TV) its REALLY REALLY small... its like a 3rd of the whole screen... i think it should be bigger on the sides or something!...

with that out of my chest, i like this game .... but i need to get some time to play it the way its meant to be.

You can enlarge it a bit in the options. I thought it was too small too.

Time to pimp the Forum Raiden IV Hi-Score Board again! The in-game world leader boards are great, but ours is great to, and you know the people you're beating!

And there's plenty of free slots on the Double Play board!

Is anyone else having issues DLing the DLC ships?

I get an error code every time I attempt it. I've emailed UFO Interactive customer service today to see if they can give me any insight as to what the problem is.

Where's your location? I'm also experiencing the problem, and think it might be a Canada-specific issue.

For those still trying to pick this up locally I saw like 5 copies at my local bestbuy. I was kind of shocked to see they had it, I would have tried gamestop first as well.

It's Canada-specific, and has been mentioned before in this thread. I emailed UFO not long after the game came out, and never heard anything back. Looks like they don't want our money. :(

I picked up the game from EB two weeks ago or so. Still haven't even opened it, been too busy. I didn't notice until I got home that there was the sticker on the front saying that it's the GameStop limited edition with artbook and OST, but peering in from the side of the box, I don't think I see anything extra, and the package doesn't feel any heavier. I don't care too much but I can't help but feel just a little ripped off since the sticker was there :P

I pre-ordered it, and picked it up on the day it came out... And while I am not any good (at all) it IS the first shmup I've played with my TV screen turned on its side, which is quite an accomplishment to me. While it takes a few minutes for me to prop my HDTV on its side, it's well worth the result.

I felt like it was quite an improvement from Raiden III. But then again, my first Raiden game was indeed Raiden III... The lasers got so shiiiiiny. *_*

And I did get the theme, to be honest. And yes, the stupid Xbox stuff does indeed cover all the pretty ship pictures (same goes for my poor Ikaruga and Ace Combat 6 theme). Really, it's the whole NXE thing that's the problem. On the old Xbox dashboard, being unable to see the pictures on your theme wasn't a problem.

So I'd rather point fingers at the stupid interface, and not the theme. I'm still angry about how it ruined my Ikaruga theme... That was what I was using when my Xbox begged me to update it to the NXE.
