okay, so i'm looking at getting a 3rd stick, purely for use on my sigma av7000 supergun.
on the one hand, i could just buy a sigma 9000TB stick (or i'm guessing any sigma stick, as i'd imagine they're all wired the same way).
but i was wondering if there are any suitable sticks out there that i could buy cheap, and mod, as i converted my 2nd stick to ps2/usb and still have all the guts (but continuously changing it from ps2/usb to supergun and back again is way too much of a ballache).
what i'd need is a stick that can easily fit an LS-32 or JLF with no hassle, and at least six 30mm button holes.
any ideas..?

What is your gun? An AV7000? If that's the case, then you should definitely buy the 9000TB and jerry rig your own PS2/USB controller (note the PS/PS2 Sigma cables are out of production, but the USB one is still available).
However, now that I think about it, you're going to have the same problem either way: the AV7000 & 9000TB use 13-pin DIN connectors, which are an absolute pain in the cock to solder leads to. It's not impossible (Matt made me a cable w/o flinching, but he's a very experienced modder).
The easiest/cheapest mod is probably a Japanese DC arcade stick, modded to put your favorite parts in. The toughest part will be dremmeling the holes in the metal plate down, but even that's kind of easy.
One last tip: don't disable PM's, and then send a PM. Makes it hard to reply.

Re: arcade stick casing recommendations....???
haha, can't believe i did that
yeah, it's an AV7000. 3 sticks is what i wanna go with. so i've currently got two, and the 1st is just straight for the supergun (i should post a pic, because i don't think anyone has as worn down a stick as i have, and it was all new kit when i bought it
). the 2nd one, i took all the guts out (such a nice stick, it's a piece of piss to do, and slots back in nicely), put in a hacked ps2 pad and wired up the buttons and stick, and has a usb lag-free adaptor on the end (take on/off when required). but soldering that up was a pain, and scarred myself in the process
the 3rd stick, i just want for some local offline 2P street fighter action. so another thing that came to mind when i cross-posted this on AO was that i could just buy a generic stick, and as i wont be using it (but paying for it), i could get a standard DC stick, or whatever, keep the parts, rip out the guts, and put the 9000TB spare guts i have in there, and wire it up. bit ghetto, but that's jpj all over
one i'm looking at is this hori ex2 on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/xbox-360-arcade-s ... 286.c0.m14
it's listed as faulty. but you'd expect that would be something electronic, rather than the physical parts themselves. so for £17 delivered, that would be a good shout. provided i can fit the guts in there. but then the 9000TB's aren't very deep, and the actual circuit board isn't that big anyways (the 9000TB's are mainly empty inside the casing).
on the otherhand, i could just go for another 9000TB as it's the simplest way (just swap the buttons out to sanwa); more expensive, but a spare stick could always come in handy anyway
pm's back on. and any advice/suggestions are welcome (where are you ganelon?
)

Re: arcade stick casing recommendations....???
I just received a Mayflash fighting stick (the all black kind) that has a USB and PS2 dual-plug and I can't believe how well it works! I had been using a very old shitty VF 3 button SAT stick and it was garbage compared to this. Sorry I can't give you info about how it would work or if it can easily be modded for a supergun, but what I can tell you is that for $6 (I got lucky on an auction) it was a steal. I might replace the buttons eventually as they are very stick and rigged, no clicking though, just hard springs in them.
Good luck with finding something that works.

Well, the 9000TB approach will scar your wallet, that's for sure. They retail for 15,500 yen, and they don't come w/ a cable (that's another 2000-2500). Then you got shipping to whomever buys it for you unless they go pick it up, shipping to you (probably 3500-4500 EMS) and then you gotta grease the wheels of the middleman a bit as well.

Re: arcade stick casing recommendations....???
the problem with the hori ex-2 is that the pcb will just randomly die within a few months. if you don't need the pcb it's not that big a deal. the case is a little short though, so you'll need to drill a hole in the bottom plate for shaft clearance.
personally, i'd recommend a mayflash. the case is sturdy, easily modded. and if you don't need the pcb you should be able to sell it off to recoup a little money. some guy on these forums put up a thread on how to mod the mayflash, so you can follow that to get an idea.

i wouldn't need the cable at all, and you know i always round up my payments anyway
but man, i remember it wasn't too long ago that £1 = 195+ yen
i'll have a little look what pikey options are available first though for a little while

It should be noted that a mayflash stick does not work with Tototeks adapters, at least mine didn't.
