Starting to see how this works. Afraid I may begin actively hating this game soon. Will try for breaking 1M tomorrow or this weekend.

Not a score but an update on my highest stage one score - 316,390
Some kind of bonus for not bombing the bonus letters - I was restarting the game via savestate, but the entry point was too late to shoot all the bonus letters (with P2 plane).

Not sure if this is poor emulation or shitty design, but having bullets as the seemingly lowermost sprite layer is the worst thing.

Dude, just worry about the rest of the stages. You're talking about maybe 1 medal value difference.

This game is fun... it's very oldschool, and a lot less annoying than Varth. Even though there are still enemies that shoot a milisecond before leaving the screen. The enemies coming from behind are a LOT more tolerable. Bullet visibility still sucks though.

Big hitbox + thousands of aimed bullets + patterns with huge gaps between bullets = Oldschool fun. I am really enjoying this.

But I wish the guy would shut the fuck up indeed. I can't understand ANYTHING he says.

How do you deal with the stage 4 plane? That stretch seems to be the die-off point for a lot of us. My strategy for him would be get behind as soon as there's an opening, bomb, and spam with shots. The P2 plane's gun isn't as powerful so it takes longer to do that though.
I can't understand ANYTHING he says.
I can understand every last thing and it doesn't really help.

If that's the die-off point of most of you guys, I won't tell how I get past of it before the week ends :). I was going to say in my last post that the 2 parts with enemies from behind that are the most annoying in tha game are exactly this one and the small ships on level 7 that "divide" the screen in 3 parts. On level 7 I have a half-assed strategy which sometimes lead me to rely on bombing.

For the Stage 4 plane, I usually get past of it without wasting any bombs or dying, it's not really that hard after you understand the whole situation :)

Destroy any popcorn on the screen, pick up bombs and medals above and prepare to dive underneath. As soon as it shoots a bullet, dodge under it, dodge the next bullet to the left (until you get limited by the screen), then to the right, and bomb. If you did everything right, it will be destroyed during the explosion. I use a bomb there because I'm usually at max or near-max stock when I meet it, so why take unnecessary risks.

Thanks guys. I'll have to try that out later.

The third boss is actually easier than the second (for me anyways - no invisibullets), just requires some anticipatory timing. I should be able to get there consistently which means I'll be able to focus on St4 soon.

(On the good side, I won't have to touch this game again.)

That's what you posted, my prog assumes everything with 'fr*' that's not 'Free' is 'Fremont' :P. Got fixed with your new score, however.

Scoreboard updated.

I find the 2nd boss the most difficulty in the ENTIRE GAME period. I still haven't mastered the last boss, but I think even him is easier than the 2nd one.

I don't bomb on that plane, and I do something a little bit different. But if you are full of bombs , I guess that strategy will work allright :D

As mozooh already said, yeah, the trick is to kill the popcorn enemies first. When I noticed the bullets killing me were from the tanks on the right, and NOT the ones shot by the airplane, all became clear :)

No, it's not nearly as deep as either, just very time dependent / maddeningly inconsistent about where on the screen it'll spit out medals. I'm sure that other players would be able to get this result or better without having to invest as much time into it as I have. Though I am wondering about the tradeoff between quick shooting the bomber planes so that the four black planes after the delta show up vs. letting them survive just long enough to launch their bombs for extra points... :P

Just to confirm, Luy's score indeed is an All.

The most amazing thing about this guy is that he DOESNT HAVE A COMPUTER AT HIS HOME. He's usually playing in a bar that have an arcade cabinet with a mame setup. That's why he had to sit out in the RFJ week, because they didn't have the RFJ rom.

He's playing without auto-fire, and he actually has to PAY for his credits. It's pretty amazing indeed.

If he could play at the comfort of his home, practice with save-states and shit, I'm sure his scores would be even more impressive :)

Edit: He did play RFJ. He played it at a cyber-cafe, asked the owner to download Mame and a RFJ rom so he could play it :)

I was thinking about this early today. Really Luy is incredible he can't even restart yours runs, pretty sure nobody in this forum is more clean in shmups than Luy. :P

People let's challenge without the save state and the restart.

Cool!
