I mean, there are at least 20 essential miles davis albums! Well I guess I'm just crazy-stupid for music.
i trimmed my miles davis to just 3 lps ..kind of blue ,in a silent way and bitches brew. i might even get rid of bitches brew because of all the shit fusion it created(mainly because record companies demanded artists do fusion) far outweighs any good it did :P

For that later electronic period, what about Dark Magus, Get up with it, Live Evil, Jack Johnson and On the Corner?

Then there's that late 60's quintet period (ESP, Nefertiti, Water Babies, Sorcerer, Miles in the Sky, Files De Killimanjaro)...probably you could weed that down, but that era feels pretty essential to me.

What about early Miles like Porgy & Bess and Sketches of Spain? Then there's a super-classic mid period with albums like 'Round about midnight and Someday my prince will come (same period as Kinda Blue). I'm not even sure where My Funny Valentine fits in, but that's definitely an essential for me.

I'm not trying to stir shit up, because it's all where your cut-off is. For me, personally, I wouldn't know which of these albums I mentioned above would get the cut, and which ones would stay. I thought they were all great.

Anyway, I thought maybe that might help visualize why I can't imagine a record collection 100 albums deep.

yeah i got your first point i was just being a bugger :)
most of them are good to great but when you've got too many records you just want rid of anything that you haven't listened to in a while.plus i could easy pick up the miles lps again if i missed them a lot cos they always in the second hand shops .on the other hand i don't trim slightly ropey obscure lps from my collection in case i miss them and can't find them again . i've learnt from past mistakes.. curating a 2000+ lp collection is no fun.
