Arcade graveyard: Naomi arcade shmup game Valhallyzer...
I was browsing on the Arcade Flyers site and came across this upcoming joint collaborative effort between Capcom, 8ing/Raizing and Psikyo arcade shmup title with artwork done by Capcom. It was supposed to be for the Sega Naomi arcade mobo platform. Valhallyzer's gaming engine was developed by 8ing btw. Or was this project scrapped and Dimahoo took it's place instead? I recall that 8ing/Raizing did release Dimahoo on the Capcom CPS2 arcade platform. It would've been interesting to see Psikyo's input on the 3rd Stage of this proposed Valhallyzer shmup game. ^_~
Perhaps some the ideas and gameplay concepts from this third-party collaboration between Capcom, 8ing and Psikyo laid the groundwork for Psikyo's eventual Dragon Blaze PCB. Hmmm, sounds intriguing, doesn't it? If so, I can see why Psikyo did not develop Gunbird 3 instead of Dragon Blaze as it's swan song. ^_~

It sure looks like a very cool arcade shmup title to play. Does it exist in prototype form?

screens look identical to dimahoo as far as i can tell.
also think there is a ship in dimahoo called valhallyser?
seems like it was just a case of confusion over the name, would be really cool if it was an actual title tho.

Ah, so it is Dimahoo then. Thanks for the heads up on that, sven666. Yeah, it would've been interesting see a joint collaborative effort between Capcom, 8ing/Raizing and Psikyo on an arcade shmup project. The real question is: how do you split the profits for a project like this though between three major Japanese arcade game developers? Is it managed at 33.33% of the profits straight down the middle? Would seem only fair arriving at that amount. ^_~

Haha, under the title it says, "Title may change without notice." I guess it did!

Re: Arcade graveyard: Naomi arcade shmup game Valhallyzer...
I think the mere mentioning of developing Valhallyzer on the Sega Naomi mobo was just a tease since we all know later that it ended going with the name change to Dimahoo and appearing on the ol' CPS2 hardware instead. ^_~
Just like with Seibu Kaihatsu's Gun Dogs later changed to Raiden Fighters to cash in on the famous Raiden series that preceeded it. Makes sense with the name change indeed. ^_~
Have there been other arcade shmup titles that went under a name change just before release to the public besides Dimahoo & Raiden Fighters?
I'm sure a lot of thought goes into creating a new arcade game shmup title...brainstorming at the roundtable with development staff, the artworks department and upper management to get it right before going to the printing press with the final design "set in stone". Even creating a brand new arcade flyer from the ground up is an art into itself. Make it eye-catchy & colorful to catch the potential customers that'll want to buy the company's software on day one of release at the twice a year AOU trade show. ^_~

Not a shmup, but I believe Final Fight was originally intended to be Street Fighter II.

Re: Arcade graveyard: Naomi arcade shmup game Valhallyzer...
If you read closely it does say it's on CPS2. The third stage, with Psikyo, is on Naomi, and is probably Cannon Spike/Gun Spike.

Well, I think it was the opposite of Gundogs. They were going to call it Street Fighter '89 and cash in on the SF name and decided against it.sunburstbasser wrote:Not a shmup, but I believe Final Fight was originally intended to be Street Fighter II.

hup, you misread it
Capcom+Eighting was for the "second stage", Naomi+Psikyo+Capcom was for the "third stage"
basically it's Dimahoo and Cannon Spike
