PAL games on a US PS2?

Post by Metal Gear Okt »

This might go in the tech forum, so move it if you must.

I have the opportunity to get The Red Star for PS2, but it's a PAL version. I'm using Swapmagic 3.3, can I play it on a stock NTSC TV/PS2? If you don't know, this game is a Cannon Spike-esque "character shooter" that was more or less finished, but never release, because Acclaim went out of business.

You'll have to have a TV capable of displaying the higher resolution a PAL game has.

PAL games worked fine on my PS2 and US TV. The only thing that was an issue was when a game started in 50hz mode and it flickered like hell until I went into the options and changed the settings.

Yeah, but that is only if the game has a 60Hz option.

Success!

It's totally playable with a y offset of 32.

I'll post my impressions tomorrow.

Let's just say if you enjoyed Cannon Spike, you owe it to yourself to track down a copy.
