The only RPG I truly enjoyed a LOT and played it to the end was both Shining Force games on the Mega-Drive (the first even more). I finally got to play this, and I am hooked again. The game keeps the same atmosphere and style of the Mega-Drive game, with very few twists. The plot is pretty cool so far. The graphics are kinda bad (Worse than the Mega-Drive games), but it's easy to get used with them.

I'll probably waste a few weeks on this now.

Pokemon Gold. Blasted through it, decided to start with the fire Pokemon instead of my normal selection of the grass type. I really should have started with the water one, a LOT of fights would be easier. Granted, then I'd have a horrible electricity weakness in my team [which I'll then be too lazy to fix], but...
Also, Blue is a fucking bitch. After all these easy gyms, he comes along with some actually decent leveled Pokemon, that all want nothing more to rape you.

Playing AC: For Answer, was a bit disappointed at first mostly because of all the changes this gen brought to the series like no Raven's Nest (emails), no heat management, no hidden parts scattered in stages and so on. But now after playing for a few hours, I think the game is badass and some AF are lots of fun to take down.

Razing Storm- I've been 1-crediting for awhile, but I've just gotten over the 3 million mark. If not for an unfortunate mistake on Stage 3's sniper section, it could've been 3.1M.

SAR - Search and Rescue (by SNK): Ikari Warriors gameplay with all the gore of Space Gun. You're on a wrecked spaceship blowing the shit out of zombified crew members, Xenomorph-like Aliens, etc.
There's no searching or rescuing going on, actually- it's more like "Shoot and Rend".

Bionic Commando (2009, Xbox 360) - While it's a very different game from the 2D versions, the hook mechanism does translate nicely. The game gets really fun once you've gotten the Kite ability. Now you're throwing BioReign soldiers off cliffs to their doom, or even into each other.

Shadow Complex - This XBLA game is somewhat like a cross between Rolling Thunder 3 and Zillion. Not bad.

Powered Gear/Armored Warriors - One of Capcom's best beat-'em-ups. Modifying your mech with parts cannibalized from enemies leads to some interesting combinations.

[DS] Dragon Quest 9 - fantastic so far, but only really scratching the surface. Onto the 3rd big town, very mmorpg'y feel.

[X360] Shadow Complex - didn't click with it at first, but now really enjoying it.
[X360] Riddick - finally got around to starting it - so far it's okay.

[PS3] Wipeout Fury - one of the best games on Ps3 got better. Fantastic stuff.

[PSP] Cave Story - back to finishing this one off when i need a break from DQ9. Amazing game.

[Iphone] Drop 7 - still addicted. Awesome puzzle game. Simple and snappy.

Catan. I don't know much about board games (besides the ones everybody is familiar with), so I kind of blew it off despite it being repeatedly suggested in XBLA threads. It's very addictive, and a nice way to wind down after playing something fast or stressful (shmups, VOOT).

Revisiting Burnout 2. Last good one before a slide into brain dead mediocrity IMO. Chaining a 20+ Burnout on the airport loop is still one of the best moments in a racer.

I've been playing Gears of War 2 online mostly. Finally figured out how to open up my nat and the game runs decently now. I'm really terrible at it, usually in last place on it.
I also got Metal Slug 7 on the cheap. I like it pretty well. The scaling is kind of weird. But I like the game otherwise. I guess it just gets a lot of hate because it's on the DS. It reminds me of Metal Slug 3.

Excellent game once it clicks with you. Kinda sad, but while playing RE5 and Star Wars: TFU I kept thinking to myself "Damn I wish this was Bionic Commando".

Just picked up Shadow Complex tonight... a few minor quibbles here and there, but it can definitely turn into one of those "wait, it's 3am already?" type games. Besides that, I've picked up Disgaea again, trying to finish off some of the last few fights in the game (Priere, Zetta, Baal, etc.) before my copy of Disgaea 2 arrives. If I have any time left after that, I think Muramasa: The Demon Blade may be next.

I'm playing SpiderWeb Software's RPG "Avernum 5" right now.
It's a Mac (and PC) old school RPG with a great plot and strategic combat.
Give it a try, it's quite deep and entertaining.
