marzli, looks stunning !

Can you tell us little bit from the technical side ? How did you capture the videos ? Are those videos takem from emulation or from actual hardware ? And if hardware, which capture device did you use ?

Honestly, if you're going to make a video like this, you might as well use clips from superplays. Just watching footage of you screwing around isn't exactly going to impress. Well, it won't impress me anyway. :X

Impressive shmup casual play you've got there, marzli. ^_~

I saw some mixed footage of the Raiden Fighters series, Raiden II, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Progear No Arashi (presented in both color and in b&w montage), Battle Garegga, Armed Police Batrider, Change Air Rade, Storm Blade, etc. ^_~

Are these all captured from your arcade PCB collection or Mame/Mame32 emulation?

The actual Storm Blade PCB runs on the (Seta, Sammy & Visco joint collaboration effort) SSV motherboard & is a rare arcade shmup title that was produced by Visco themselves. The original Japanese version of SB PCB is the one to get for it's cool Japanese voice-overs. And it did get a proper Stateside arcade release as well.

Man, this was really great. Do you happen to have a listing of the games showcased in each part? There were a few that I didn't recognize that look like they might be worth picking up at some point... or at least worth looking into.

Enjoyed these a lot, my favorite parts were some of the intros and assortment of much lesser known games (at least for me). It also made me realize how dramatic and stunning some horis are as I tend to play mostly verts.

A few things I was wondering when I watched them though. Why didn't you include the game titles either in the tags section or editing them into the video somehow?
Also, why did you choose to repeat some of the games over multiple videos? Overall, bravo!

That was a great watch. Makes anyone think about why we love shmups so much!

Just one constructive note: no matter how good (or bad) you think your gameplay is, at least you should not get hit in these videos.

I like the smooth transitioning from horis to verts. I've wanted to make a shooter montage (simply as a guide for prospective fans), but wondered how I could avoid segregating the two subtypes. Will definitely follow your example if I ever get around to it!

If I have to choose which part I liked the most, it's no.1, because it has best music.

Yea, nice transitions between verts/horis and nice synchronizing when playing an up-scrolling space shooter along with 4-3-2-1- lift off.
The deaths in the very beggining of some stage 1 were not so inspiring tho. Nice watch nonetheless.

Just watched them all in one sitting, it was very entertaining. It would be nice to have all the game titles in captions or annotations (so they can easily be hidden as well), there were quite a few shmups I didn't recognize.

wow. thats a lot of reply

i used emulation. i dont have a recording devince for my original games from consoles or arcade boards.

thanks for everything you wrote.

i will take the advice not do die in the videos anymore :)
sometimes i just didnt notice that.

of course there is no expert gameplay - im not at the c64/amiga age anymore :)
but i still can do it if i want :) hehe

the next time i will notice all the titles and post em.

if you want to know more about the music, then look the end of the vids.

btw: imho nr. 3 is the video that is not sooo good.

Cool stuff. The visual effects were fun to see. I second what Ghegs says that there should be some captions for the introduction of a new game, so we know what games they are. I bet you could make it fairly slick with youtube's annotation editor.

Does anyone know what the first vert. shmup in the second video was? I can't for the life of me figure out what it was.

Those videos are incredible, but you totally need to say the name of each game.

What's that game in episode 4 where the guy is running from the flames, capture a plane and leave that huge ship? Looks awesome.

Ahaha, seriously? I saw that game and was like "wow, that looks pretty awesome, I kinda wanna look into buying that." Little did I know that I already have the game on that spiffy Raiden Fighters Aces collection.

I should play that game this week... I put 15 minutes into Fighters 2, thought it had definite potential, and then put the game down... so I suppose it's time to remedy that.

Looks like Boogie Wings. I've never played it myself, but cybernator5000 was a fan.

Thanks!

Boogie Wings has a lot of WTF material. Never thought I'd play a game where you ran away from a Ferris Wheel in a roller coaster track while an elephant is hooked to your plane.

Hmm... there's one last game whose identity I was wondering about. It's in video 3 starting at around 5:17... the helicopter one.

Marzli, not bad. My only really gripe is you have a little too much Raiden Fighters. Put in a few more clips of WTF shmups.

Another suggestion would be to find a way to time the bullets with the music, but that's just me. It's probably harder to do that witch techno/trance/related music etc...

Also, in your videos credits, please list the shmups you used, just as a courtesy for everyone else who keeps asking "WHAT SHMUP IZ DIZ?!?!?"

woah woah you're making a fifth one?

Ok then, um, one clip of each unique game then. Don't flash the same game like four times like you've been doing. It looks kinda like a shortcut. You coulda condensed what you've done so far into two episodes based on how many different titles you've actually used.
