how to emulate ray crisis in mame?

i have been trying to get this game to work in mame without success. i have downloaded the bios and a chd file but cant find any rom. is it able to work using chd and bios files only. how to emulate this game?

There is no rom for Ray crisis. All you need is the .chd file and the three G-Net files.

Put all four of them in a folder called raycris inside your MAME roms folder. Good to go.

Why would you do that?
There's perfectly functional PC version of Raycrisis, running at higher resolution, without messing with .CHDs and MAME's input lag.

Just fire it up with "mame raycris".

Also, just use ePSXe and the PS1 version. That's what I did anyway. Runs much faster than in MAME.

The same here, since HOTUD (Home of the Underdog -> that *supposedly* the place to get it*) is ressurected, all its database were reset.
Oh yeah, anybody knows where to get Layer Section/Rayforce PC version? :-\

I knew I should've checked that off before shooting my mouth off...

My experience with CHDs (almost all Midway / Atari so far) was always that they had ROMs alongside (anti-piracy heh), whoops.

I may check out this PC version. Unfortunately you likely get more features when running in MAME, even the official build.

Wow, that's bad. BTW, I'm focusing on getting RC since I've got Gunlock in MAME already.

Ok i figured out that raycrisis was not working because mame was a bull shit download. Where can i download mame that actually works on windows. I have downloaded it atleast 30 times from different sites and its just hundreds of files and garbage that i have no idea how to use. Im looking for mame with and .exe icon that i can click on to start.

To answer your question (since I assume this is going to be folded back into that topic): you need to...search for a MAME build that works on Windows, using your favorite search engine. They're out there. I use MAME Plus: http://mameicons.free.fr/mame32p/ I used to use MAME32qa from Classicgaming, and there are other builds around as well. Make sure you are getting an x86 release and not an x64 binary, unless you have Vista 64-bit (I'm going to take a wild guess that you don't have Windows XP 64-bit, or anything else uncommon).

1. Download MAME (MameUI32 is a good choice) and extract it to wherever you'd like
2. Get ROMs
3. Put them in your ../roms directory
4. Run MAME from the main directory

If this is too much then just do something else with your time.

Oh, I'd like to add that MAMEUI32 = MAME32qa, I was thinking of the site url on Classicgaming. They had a /mame32/ directory as well but shifted to a new one (qa = "quality assurance" I guess) for some reason, probably somebody messed up.

Excellent boil-down of the MAME how-to btw, just missing the ??? step. Also the (optional, but pretty much required) step of removing unused categories from the list via right-clicking them and sorting them out.

I've never played the arcade version, though.
