I also brought Sexy Paridous (to many people have mentioned this game as a good game on many differnt forums and since I'm such a fan of the first two games in the series...) and DoDonPachi (played on mame for over a year now) this week for my beloved sega saturn to for a good price I felt.
Yeah generaly it's one of the reasons why I never sell anything on EBAY lol. I also managed to pick up a massive Joystick for the ps2 made for fighting games really for £1. The person that sold it to me e-mailed me saying that I was a lucky git lol.
Yeah this wa the first neogeo shooter I ever played in the arcades when I was younger. I guess the good thing about buying the PSX version is that I can rip the music from the CD, if I manage that I'll host it on my website because the music for Viewpoint is just ownage to be frank. (Hello frank heh!)
I looked at some of the other prices on the NEOGEO for this thing, £50+, I think I defo' got a bargin today although I best this year before viewpoint was getting Psyvariar: Complete for the PS2 for £5 mint from GAME.
Well to be honest I don't want to judge the port intill I've played it. Only found one review and that's from IGN. They did not like the game because "it was to hard" and "not fun". I doubt they even played the neogeo version. Besides even if the game did suck, I can rip the music from the cd which is a good thing I guess.
Well looks like I got more than what I bargined for. I found this review of the game while serching for more info for the PSX version of Viewpoint and... well I think you guys should take a look.
Now to be honest I would of just been happy with the port from the neo but I looks like Sammy were having none of that and I hoping they have not destoryed the atmosphere and the fun gameplay of the game. (apreantly the game is the same though)
Well I found this intresting article compairing the Neogeo version to the Sega Megadrive and PSX versions. Looks like U.F.O was right about EA butchering the feel of the game. Still I imgen it will still but worth the £2.30 I paid for it lol.
The game is one of the more unreasonably difficult shooters out there, and don't get to excited about ripping the music. It's game generated audio, not red-book, and there is no sound test. I spoke with the composer briefly a few years back about the music and his answer is "ask E.A." to release a soundtrack. Great, that's a big help.
The music does rock although it's a totaly different soundtrack to the Neo*Geo, and I believe the only way to rip the audio will be to enable the invincability code, disable sound effects, and then let the levels play through while you record the audio. In 10 years, I've never gotten around to doing it because it's going to be a real pain in the ass, but one of these days, I swear I'm going to do it.
FWIW, in hind sight the best version of Viewpoint is the Neo*Geo release.
