Nice work Ruldra.

Re: STGT'09 Week 1 - Varth: Operation Thunderstorm
I actually use Wide for most of my runs. MG bomb is unreliable as it likes to trail popcorn enemies and then leave the screen instead of attack large ones, and anything you're 3 ship sizes away from when using the wide bomb gets vaporized.Herr Schatten wrote:Laser and Wide are actually nice and useful weapons, but they are rendered useless by their crappy bombs. The bomb is the main reason you have to stick to the machine guns. The most annoying points bonuses are the little red rockets, which must be flown over to be revealed, then shot. (The other bonuses work the other way around.) And it's true, those damn smart pods are too unreliable.
You also get the good amount of damage the machine gun offers by pointblanking with Wide.
I generally only switch to MG for bosses, with the exception of 7 since flamethrower goes through bomb invincibility.

I grabbed the pods for the first time in stage 25. I wanted to go for a podless ALL but I'm not too confident with stages 26 and onwards, so I decided to play safe for now and attempt it later.moozooh wrote:How far did you go podless?
Not sure if I'm going to pull it off though, it's fucking hard.

Can someone please explain the stage 4 boss bug, why and how to get it, and more importantly, how much points you get?

Time your kill so that the bonus you get is either 29000 or 27000. The game will somehow add another 0 to the end of that bonus.

Yeah, it shows up like that but adds a lot more. You can check by your score increase.

Awesome job Kapten Dragoforce!
BTW, do auto wiggling and other setups really work? To me it seems there is a pretty low maximum wiggle speed the game registers.

Re: STGT'09 Week 1 - Varth: Operation Thunderstorm
Autowiggle (which isn't allowed in this tournament) is beneficial not because it allows you to wiggle quickly, but it's beneficial because it allows you to not worry about wiggling while you're moving (which means you can be moving without you wiggling manually while you're still getting the fastest bomb recharge). You just have to get used to your ship being jittery all the time as if it was built into the game (depending on when you use autowiggle, anyway).
You're right in that the speed of the wiggling does not have to be that fast. After a certain speed of doing it, it has no greater affect as compared to doing it at a slightly lower speed. I think the "max" speed is once every four frames (ex. left on frame 1, right on frame 5, etc) but I still have yet to recheck.
Wiggling your joystick left and right recharges your bombs faster, for those of you who still do not know.

Really enjoying this game, but the cheapness does get frustrating at times. Would have been nice if i didn't miss the 270k and laser, pot-shotted on 17 by the boss.
